Join the conversation on Community Health and Wellbeing

Community Health and Wellbeing Week (Sept 30-Oct 6) will be celebrated by community-governed primary healthcare organizations across Ontario, as well as Canada. During the week, participating centres will organize dozens of special events in local communities. Each will focus on the need to shift the conversation about health and healthcare in Canada.

With Medicare in its 50th year, there is an urgent need to make this shift. As things now stand, far too many people experience avoidable illnesses because our fragmented health care system remains poorly equipped to address the most important determinants of health - determinants such as access to good nutrition, housing, social supports, employment, income, and education.  These have a much bigger impact on health and wellbeing than what medical care alone can provide.

AOHC has launched an email series leading up to Community Health and Wellbeing week that spotlights how AOHC member centres are already working upstream by delivering services and programs that address the eight CIW domains.

Read our spotlight on education where we highlight the Back to School Community Store an initiative led by the Centre de santé communautaire du Grand Sudbury.
