Thunder Bay's first Pride Parade
Recently Thunder Bay held its first Pride Parade, as part of its annual Thunder Pride Week, an annual community celebration of LGBTQ and diversity rights. More than 200 people, including politicians, family members, friends and supporters attended. The Pride Parade led to the showcase event: Pride in the Park at Thunder Bay's Marina Park. This event featured music, food vendors, displays by partner and community agencies, an artisan village, as well as activities for children and families. Over 1,200 people have attended each in the past three years. NorWest Community Health Centres is a proud partner in both the Parade and in the Pride in the Park events.
Happy Pride Week Toronto!

Port Hope CHC lauded for migrant farm worker help
Congratulations to Port Hope CHC who recently won Partner of the Year award from the New Canadians Centre in Cobourg for its work providing primary health care outreach services to migrant farm workers.
Other CHCs working to extend services to some of the 20,000 migrant farm workers include Chatham Kent CHC who visits local greenhouses and the Quest and Niagara Falls CHCs who have partnered to serve farmworkers in Virgil every second Sunday in the summer.
We believe our model of care is an ideal fit so AOHC is partnering with the Occupational Health Clinics for Ontario Workers to develop a proposal seeking additional resources to enable CHCs and NPLCs to serve more migrant farm workers.

Do you want to "grow your own" nurse practitioner? Your centre/clinic may be interested in this government program to help you fill vacancies among NP positions. The program allows you to use Ministry funds to sponsor a local RN to obtain his/her NP education. The funding is used to pay the RN's salary while in school, and in exchange the new NP must agree to a return of service commitment to your centre/clinic.
