Capital funding announced at Norwest CHC
 May 21 was the 3rd straight day of rain in Thunder Bay but spirits were high at the Norwest CHC where MPP's Bill Mauro and Michael Gravelle announced funding from the Ontario government for a major capital expansion of the Thunder Bay office. The multi-million dollar
building expansion will allow increased efficiencies in service, and provide a safer, more effective environment for clients and staff.

Advocacy and AOHC members
We know that public education and advocacy is important if we want governments to make the changes needed to improve the lives of people we work with. Many AOHC members are registered charities. There is often confusion about what a registered charity can and cannot do regarding political activity and advocacy. Registered charities can engage in allowable political activities as long as they are non-partisan, related to their legal objects, and limited resources are used (which generally means less than 10% of resources).

People's Shadow Summit & Rally for Medicare
During the Council of the Federal annual meeting with all the Premiers on July 24-25 in Niagara-on-the-Lake, the Ontario Health Coalition will hold a Shadow Summit to push for the renewal of the National Health Accord and federal support for Medicare. The event includes workshops, a teach -in, media events and a rally to call on the federal government to get back to the table regarding the Health Accord which expires in 2014.

Healthy Communities Fund now accepting proposals
The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care's Healthy Communities Fund (HCF) Program Stream is currently accepting proposals for funding. The 2013/14 HCF Program Stream supports integrated health promotion programs that improve the health of Ontarians through healthy eating, injury prevention, mental health promotion, physical activity, and alcohol/substance misuse prevention.

George Brown College has a new Family Practice/Primary Care nursing certificate program for RNs.
