Provincial government makes major new investment in CHCs and AHACs
On Wednesday afternoon Minister of Health and Long-te rm Care Deb Matthews delivered some very good news. She announced the provincial government is making new investments in 17 capital projects for CHCs and AHACs! The announcement means thousands more people will be able to access the benefits of community-governed primary health care.
Over the next few weeks watch for announcements from the Minister and MPPs in communities across the province.
As of today, local announcements have been made for:
- The Jamestown Satellite for Rexdale CHC
- The Kipling Dixon satellite for Rexdale
- Quest CHC in St. Catharines
- Niagara Falls CHC
- And the South Georgian Bay CHC where an event is being held today.

AOHC's work on oral health featured in Toronto Star editorial
Access to affordable oral health care is a priority issue for AOHC. We've been doing behind the scenes advocacy work over the past year with MOHLTC, and public advocacy with the Ontario Oral Health Alliance. On April 1st, the Toronto Star ran an editorial showcasing this work.

Registration now open for regional AODA workshops
Starting this month, AOHC's provincial AODA trainer, Constance Exley, will be touring the province to help centres better understand and comply with the four new standards under the AODA: Information and Communications, Employment, Transportation, and Design of Public Spaces. These 2-hour workshops are meant for staff who are responsible for overseeing and/or implementing the AODA requirements for their centre.

Learn more about Healthy Kids Strategy at AOHC conference
Is your centre interested in playing a key role in the provincial government's new Healthy Kids Strategy. If so, you'll be interested in two sessions at AOHC "Working Better Together Conference".
- In a learning session Assistant Deputy Minister of Health and Long-term Care, Kate Manson Smith, will give an update on the how the province will be implementing its strategy.
- And in a special workshop, you can learn about how a 'OrganWise Guys,' a successful American-based program to address childhood obesity (OWG), now is being adopted by Langs CHCs in partnership with education and community partners in Cambridge, Ontario.

MP Lobby re Health Accord
AOHC, CACHC and Canadian Doctors for Medicare are part of a national MP lobby spearheaded by the Council of Canadians starting the week of April 8th . The aim is to urge Members of Parliament to demand a 2014 Health Accord which protects, strengthens and extends public health care for everyone. Meetings are being organized with a select number of Ontario MPs.

Email your MPP: Check www.TogetherOntario.org to send a petition letter to your MPP urging them to live up to their commitment to begin to end poverty in Ontario by taking decisive action in the next provincial budget.

2013 Ontario Health Plan for an Influenza Pandemc now available
The 2013 Ontario Health Plan for an Influenza Pandemic (OHPIP) is available for viewing at www.ontario.ca/ohpip. The 2013 OHPIP is designed to guide the health system's preparedness for and response to a pandemic at the provincial and local levels.
To inform important stakeholders of the details of the plan, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is hosting a series of webinars.
