Successful advocacy: New funding to municipalities to help cushion the cuts to CSUMB
Thanks to community advocates - including many voices from AOHC members - the Ontario Government announced on December 27th it will provide one-time funding to municipalities of $42million for homelessness prevention programs. The funding is prioritized for people on social assistance to support many of the same housing crisis prevention initiatives that the Community Start Up & Maintenance Benefit (CUSMB) supported. Collective advocacy DOES make a difference - so let's keep meeting, emailing, tweeting, and writing our politicians to keep poverty eradication on the agenda. |
