Growing support for CHC model of care
The CHC model of care has received outstanding recognition and praise over the last couple of weeks, thanks in part to the report released by the Canadian Index of Wellbeing.
Last week, the Ottawa Citizen published a fantastic editorial congratulating Somerset West CHC on the development of the Hintonburg Hub and endorsing the CHC model of care.

NDP releases consultation paper on health care
As political parties get ready for a potential 2013 election the NDP is seeking public input to a number of questions on how to improve health care. Some of the community meetings led by NDP Leader Andrea Horwath are being held in CHCs.

"No One Is Illegal - Toronto" has launched an anonymous phone line for migrant patients and service providers to share information about healthcare services they are being denied or are unable to provide due to recent changes to refugee healthcare by the federal government.
Call 1-888-602-6365 - press 2 if you are a service provider who is facing constraints

Tips on how to access CSUMB for your clients
The government is cutting this benefit for people on social assistance as of January 1, 2013. CSUMB provides up to $799 over a 2 year period and can be used for housing issues such as: deposits and hook-up fees for utilities; last month's rent deposit; moving costs; rent arrears to prevent eviction.

Oral health postcard campaign update
About 20 MPP meetings have been held to date to present the signed postcards. Feedback indicates that for the mos t part all MPPs seemed to understand and have sympathy for the issue. The majority of MPPs met with said they would support the call to extend provincial dental programs to include low income adults. Several asked where the money would come from. |
EMR good news
Congratulations are in order on the EMR front.
Regent Park CHC's successful deployment on November 27th (yesterday!) was significant for the sector, as it included the first migration of Personal Development Group (PDG) data into Nightingale on Demand (NOD), in addition to the registration, scheduling and partial EMR components.
The very first implementation of the data retention solution was completed at Mary Berglund CHC on November 22nd.
These milestones came hot on the heels of other successful deployments at West Elgin and Misiway CHCs on 11th and 18th October respectively.
Next up ... De dwa da dehs nye>s will be the first Aboriginal Health Access Centre to go live with NOD on November 30th.

OLIS
The Ontario Laboratories Information System (OLIS) was successfully implemented at South-East Grey CHC on November 7th. Moving forward, OLIS implementation will be incorporated into the EMR implementation process.
