Concerned Students for Refugee Care take action against refugee health cuts

A pro-refugee rally on Parliament Hill took place on Monday, October 22, after Saskatoon-Rosetown-Biggar MP Kelly Block sent a mail-out condemning extended health benefits for refugee claimants. University of Ottawa medical students, with a little bit of help from some local CHC folks, produced this video highlighting the event.

Tips on how to access the Community Start Up and Maintenance Benefit (CSUMB) for your clients
The government is cutting this benefit for people on social assistance as of January 1, 2013. CSUMB provides up to $799 over a 2 year period and can be used for housing issues such as: deposits and hook-up fees for utilities; last month's rent deposit; moving costs; rent arrears to prevent eviction.

At least 7 MPPs have been met with to date in our call for extension of emergency oral health programs to low income adults. Reports back indicate MPPs are interested and concerned.

Announcement of Health Quality Ontario's Interim CEO
Health Quality Ontario (HQO) has announced that Mark Rochon will be joining the organization as Interim President and Chief Executive Officer.
Mr. Rochon will serve in this interim capacity while the Board of Directors undertakes a comprehensive search for a permanent replacement for Dr. Ben Chan, who is leaving at the end of November. |
Ontario Association of Community Care Access Centres bids farewell to CEO
Margaret Mottershead is taking early retirement as the Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario Association of Community Care Access Centres (OACCAC), a position she has held since 2007. In the interim, Dan Burns has agreed to assume the role of CEO of the OACCAC effective November 15th for up to one year. |
