Breaking new ground
AOHC's Chief Information Officer Rodney Burns' weekly blog takes a lighter touch on all things information strategy - yes, the EMR, quality improvement, business reporting, OHRS, and more! - and ties them into the events of the day ... or the events in his life.
His invites you to "pick his brain." But don't get him started on shoes.

Save the Community Start Up and Maintenance Benefit (CSUMB)
Meetings are being planned with Toronto area cabinet ministers to try and stop this cut. If your MPP is Liberal, and you are keen to meet with him/her about this issue, we have a lobby kit ready - please email jacquie@aohc.org
Tips on how to access the Community Start Up and Maintenance Benefit (CSUMB) for your clients
The government is cutting this benefit for people on social assistance as of January 1, 2013. CSUMB provides up to $799 over a 2 year period and can be used for housing issues such as: deposits and hook-up fees for utilities; last month's rent deposit; moving costs; rent arrears to prevent eviction.

Social Assistance Review - Update
AOHC and anti-poverty groups have identified a number of recommendations from the report that we want the Ontario government to act on immediately. We will be meeting this month with the Liberal government and Opposition parties to tell them this.
Actions AOHC members can take
- Spread the word - Post the report summary and AOHC press release in your waiting rooms.
- Hold a community meeting to talk about the report recommendations and get feedback.
- Email or meet with your MPP. If they are Opposition members urge them to publicly support the rate increase.
New reports available on Poverty by Riding

Healthy Kids Panel seeking parents' help with survey
AOHC recently presented recommendations to the Ontario government's Healthy Kids Panel which is developing a strategy to address childhood obesity. They are asking to hear from parents and caregivers with children under the age of 18 to get a better understanding of their knowledge and perceptions of childhood obesity.
Please help by completing the survey (if you're a parent with child under 18) or circulating the survey for completion by November 12.
