Change at the top
AOHC watches with you to see what the resignation of Premier Dalton McGuinty means for Ontario. The nine bills that were in the legislature when it was prorogued "die on the order paper." It remains to be seen what will be re-introduced in a new Parliament when it is called. That means public sector wage freezes are on hold. It also means that other bills of interest will also have to be re-introduced, such as: Bill 130, the Promoting Local Food Act; and France Gelinas' Bill 126, Healthy Decisions Made Easy,
The premier will remain in his position until a replacement is chosen but has mandated that cabinet ministers who run for the leadership must step down from cabinet. Will Minister of Health and Long-Term Care Deb Matthews run for the leadership of the Liberal party? If she does, who will be the interim minister? Will there be an election in the spring when a new leader is in place? Again, we watch with you for such developments and will comment as appropriate over coming months.
