Sometimes I smoke more cuban cigars, sometimes less. Depends on the weather, what is for dinner, whether I have time on a Saturday afternoon etc.
What I can say is I enjoy cigars far more if I plan ahead and make time for their enjoyment. Seems a little silly I guess. Grown man having to set aside a couple of hours for a stogie, but the time to savor and relax while having a fine Cuban makes it all worth while.
I don't mean run and hide. I mean reserve time for yourself, ask your partner to join you after dinner for a drink and cigar on the deck. She may not share in the stogie, but the company is nice and if the weather cooperates, you can watch the sun set, you can read, talk, or enjoy music.
We all need moments of relaxation and enjoyment to halt the hectic pace of life. Leave the phone inside, play some cribbage and spend the time to taste your Cuban. Look for the subtle flavors resulting from tobacco fermentation, like coffee tones, vanilla, cocoa and chocolate, and even some wood and leather. These are there in most fine cubans waiting to be recognized. But you need peace and quiet to allow time for comtemplation of each layer of flavor.
Enjoy the rest of summer, the best time is yet to come. Late August and all of September are my favorite. Remember too, that pairing a good single malt or a decent bourbon, maybe a nice meal and good company, all contribute to the overall enjoyment of a cuban cigar.

The Top Shelf!
Each month we will focus our attention on a "Top Shelf" Cuban cigar. There are so many to choose from, with several that stand out among even the fine Cuban Cigar lineas.
Partagas Serie D No 4 robusto

Ok, you may be saying right now,
"D 4 is TOP SHELF? What the heck, this is a typical mid priced Cuban? Sure it's good, but what makes it so darn special to be labeled Top Shelf?"
You are correct. It is a mid priced Cuban Robusto. It is, however, the best selling Robusto Cuba manufactures and for good reason.
Consistent flavors, lots of strength, this Cuban cigar never seems to disappoint anyone.
It is one of the few Cubans I have recommended to anyone wanting to delve into the strong side of Cuban cigars and never once had anyone complain when they smoked one.
I often say the Partagas Serie D No 4 is like smoking a double espresso with a hint of cream in it. Dark black coffee tones, even coffee ground aromas are present. This combined with a decent strength and some pepper, burnt woods and old leather.
The History of Partagas has the Serie D No 4 at it's center. P erhaps the best known of all Partagas is the Serie D No. 4 , the robusto size that formed part of the legendary Partagas alphabet series that dates back to the 1930's.
If there is one particularly famous cigar factory in Havana, it is Partagas. You can find it at No. 520 Industria Street, just behind the Capitol building, in the heart of the city. The factory was opened in 1845 by Don Jaime Partagas and it has been making the cigars that bear his name ever since.
A Partagas is immediately recognizable by its deep, earthy flavor. The character of its blend springs from a selection of filler and binder tobaccos grown in the Vuelta Abajo zone and chosen for their unmistakable richness of flavour and aroma. Personal notes:
As I mentioned above, I suggest this cigar to clients looking to move into the full body, strong side Cubans. It does seem to have a slight charcoal finish in the 2nd half that does not appeal to every palette, but it sure pleases most.
It is one of our biggest sellers and has been for over ten years, which says so much about their quality control and consistent blending at the Partagas Factory in Cuba.
I use it often for the monthly Ten Pack Deal, simply because we sell more ten packs with it than any other cigar. The current ten pack of Monte Petit No 2 torpedos, is a close second in overall sales for the ten pack.

Just joking...
Your Chuckle for today
So, there are three golfers, Bob, Max and Ted, who are looking for a fourth. Bob mentions that his friend George is a pretty good golfer, so they decide to invite him for the following Saturday.
"Sure, I'd love to play" says George "but I may be about ten minutes late, so wait for me".
So Saturday rolls around. Bob, Max, and Ted arrive promptly at 9:00 and find George already waiting for them. He plays right-handed and beats them all. Quite pleased with their new fourth, they ask him if he'd like to play again the following Saturday.
"Yeah, sounds great" says George. "But I maybe about ten minutes late, so wait for me".
The following Saturday, again, all four golfers show up on time, but this time George plays left-handed and beats them all. So they're getting ready to leave, George says "See you next Saturday, but I may be about ten minutes late, so wait for me".
Every week, George is right on time and plays great with whichever hand he decides to use. And every week, he departs with the same message.
After a couple months, Ted is pretty tired of this routine, so he says "Wait a minute, George. Every week you say you may be about ten minutes late, but you're right on time. You beat us either left-handed or right-handed. What's the story?"
"Well" George says "I'm kind of superstitious. When I get up in the morning, I look at my wife. If she's sleeping on her left side, I play left-handed, and if she's sleeping on her right side, I play right-handed".
"So what do you do if she's sleeping on her back?" Bob asks.
"Well... That's when I'm about ten minutes late".
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A young boy enters a barber shop and the barber whispers to his customer "This is the dumbest kid in the world. Watch while I prove it to you".
The barber puts a dollar bill in one hand and two quarters in the other, then calls the boy over and asks "Which do you want, son?"
The boy takes the quarters and leaves. "What did I tell you?" said the barber. "That kid never learns!"
Later, when the customer leaves, he sees the same young boy coming out of the ice cream store.
"Hey, son! May I ask you a question? Why did you take the quarters instead of the dollar bill?"
The boy licked his cone and replied "Because the day I take the dollar, the game is over!"

Vern works hard at the phone company but spends two nights each week bowling, and plays golf every Saturday. His wife thinks he's pushing himself too hard, so for his birthday she takes him to a local strip club.
The doorman at the club greets them and says "Hey Vern! How ya doin?" His wife is puzzled and asks if he's been to this club before. "Oh no" says Vern. "He's in my bowling league".
When they are seated, a waitress asks Vern If he'd like his usual and brings over a Budweiser. His wife is becoming increasingly uncomfortable and says "How did she know that you drink Budweiser?" "I recognise her, she's the waitress from the golf club. I always have a Bud at the end of the 1st nine, honey".
A stripper then comes over to their table, throws her arms around Vern, starts to rub herself all over him and says "Hi Vern. Want your usual table dance, big boy?"
Vern's wife, now furious, grabs her purse and storms out of the club. Vern follows and spots her getting into a cab. Before she can slam the door, he jumps in beside her.
Vern tries desperately to explain how the stripper must have mistaken him for someone else but his wife is having none of it. She is screaming at him at the top of her lungs, calling him every 4 letter word in the book.
The cabby turns around and says "Geez Vern, you picked up a real bitchy one this time!"
