Happy St Patrick's Day
Monday March 17th, 2014

My wfe is a grade one Teacher.  She seems to always be taking strange stuff to school for arts andc rafts, math games and the like.  Then a week ago I see on the counter a box of Lucky Charms cereal, of all things.  Now even as a kid I did not like the idea of all that color in one bowl, let alone the sugar and the mashmallow, so I asked what the heck we would want that for.

Her reply was quiet and softly to say "they're not for you, ya twit"  we need them at school.  I said all I ever hear is how you promote healthy eating to your students and you even insist on fruits and veggies for their treats at Christmas!  Now you give them these horrid things, wow!

Her response, again quiet and subdued, was.. "They are the bait, my students are making Leprechaun Traps for St Patrick's Day. I swear she mumbled "you idiot" at the end, but she would not admit to it.

What a fun and simple idea for a bunch of 7 year olds to learn about building things.  I wish I had a Teacher as dedicated when I was a wee lad! Turns out she then sneaks in early and removes the  "bait" replacing it with little golden chocolate coins and notes saying things like "nice try" and "just missed me, here' s a bit from me pot of gold" and so on.  Story is a little mushy for a cigar guy newsletter I know, but I am proud of Margo and admire her dedication and fun attitude towards learning.

  St Patrick's Day Celebrations!

During and following the great potato famine of 1846, some 4,000,000 Irish left their country. About 90% of them came to the New World to start a new life, bringing St. Patrick along.

In the U.S., it is primarily a festive day filled with good cheer, parades, the "wearing of the green," shamrocks, and song. We all celebrate the day right along with the Irish, though not with quite the same fervor and tradition!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Every year since 1962, the Chicago River has been dyed green for St. Patrick's day.
The actual dye is orange. It turns green when it's churned into the water. The discovery of this phenomenon was made by members of Chicago's
pipefitters union back in 1962, and the union has been dyeing the river for St. Pat's ever since.
The natural green river can be seen to the right, awaiting its transformation into the hypergreen to the left.
In 1962, over 100 pounds of dye were dumped into the river, leaving it green for days. Now, only 40 pounds are dispersed, but because the River was reversed to run backwards away from the lake, even one day later, the entire river for many blocks to the west remains a shamrock-colored fairway.
Cuban Cigar Review
Romeo y Julieta
De Luxe Limited Edition 2013
robusto extra  6 1/2 x 52
reviewed by  D Fraser.
Dark wrapper bordering on full marduro as with most Cuban limited edicions.  Oily with a nice burnt almond aroma.
This being a 2013 it is still pretty new and upon lighting it did seem a bit green for an LE.  A strong side cigar that matches the full strength of pretty much every Romeo limited edition ever released.  Most of these are too strong for my palette but this one started off ok with nice wood and leather flavors and a dark pepper tone.
Ok, so I was right to be concerned about strentgh for my palette.  The second half really too off in flavor and unforunately also in strength.  Wow, whacked me hard and made me a little dizzy.  I think a few fingers of Scotch or other whiskey is required for this smoke.
It did take on some dissapointing charcoal notes and the acidity increased a lot in the second half, accounting for the strength increase.  Needs some time in a humidor to mellow and finish aging.  I say 6 months would show serious improvement.
So for those with a palette and taste for the darker stronger side Cubans, this will be a hit right away.  It will improve greatly with some resting time, so I suggest having a few in the humidor so they're ready by early fall.
My overall rating is 87/100.
CA Magazines most recent rating was a  89/100
St Patrick's Day
A Bushmills 18 yo and a Montecristo from Cuba pair very well together and would make your toast that wee bit more special!
 Here's to a long life & a merry one.
A quick death and an easy one.
A pretty girl and an honest one.
A cold beer-and another one!
Dance as if no one were watching,
Sing as if no one were listening,
And live everyday as if it were your last.
May your glass be ever full.
May the roof over your head be always strong.
How to get to the Pub!
McQuillan walked into a bar and ordered martini after martini, each time removing the olives and placing them in a jar. When the jar was filled with olives and all the drinks consumed, the Irishman started to leave.
"S'cuse me," said a customer, who was puzzled over what McQuillan had done. "What was that all about?"
"Nothing," said the Irishman, "my wife just sent me out for a jar of olives."
Corporate Lesson number one
A crow was sitting on a tree, doing nothing all day. A small rabbit saw the crow, and asked him, "Can I also sit like you and do nothing all day long?" The crow answered: "Sure, why not." So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the crow, and rested.
All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.
Moral of the story is:
To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.
Corporate Lesson number two
A turkey was chatting with a bull. "I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree," sighed the turkey, "but I haven't got the energy."
"Well, why don't you nibble on some of my droppings?" replied the bull. "They're packed with nutrients."
The turkey pecked at a lump of dung and found that it actually gave him enough strength to reach the first branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after a fortnight, there he was proudly perched at the top of the tree.
Soon he was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot the turkey out of the tree.
Moral of the story:
Bullshit might get you to the top, but it won't keep you there.
Paddy on
St Patrick's Day
Paddy had been drinking at his local Dublin pub all day and most of the night celebrating St Patrick's Day. Mick, the bartender says, "You'll not be drinking anymore tonight Paddy!" Paddy replies, "OK Mick, I'll be on my way then."
Paddy spins around on his stool and steps off. He falls flat on his face. "Shoite!" he says and pulls himself up by the stool and dusts himself off. He takes a step towards the door and falls flat on his face, "Shoite, Shoite!" He looks to the doorway and thinks to himself that if he can just get to the door and some fresh air he'll be fine.
He belly crawls to the door and shimmies up to the door frame. He sticks his head outside and takes a deep Breath of fresh air, feels much better and takes a step out onto the sidewalk and falls flat on his face. "Bi' Jasus... I'm fockin' focked," he says.
He can see his house just a few doors down, and crawls to the door, hauls himself up the door frame, opens the door and shimmies inside. He takes a look up the stairs and says "No fockin" way". He crawls up the stairs to his bedroom door and says "I can make it to the bed." He takes a step into the room and falls flat on his face. He says "Fock it" and falls into bed.
The next morning, his wife, Jess, comes into the room carrying a cup of coffee and says, "Get up Paddy. Did you have a wee bit too much to drink last night?". Paddy says, "I did Jess. I was fockin" pissed. But how'd you know?"
"Mick phoned... you left your wheelchair at the pub."
