The PGA golf event of the year. The quest for the green jacket motivates pro golfers to reach for greatness.
Possibly the finest golf course in the world. Augusta National Golf Club opened in December of 1932, although the formal grand opening didn't take place until January of 1933. Land for the club had been purchased and construction begun in 1931.
HISTORY of the MASTERS
Looking to provide a service to golf by hosting a tournament, Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts decided to hold an annual event beginning in 1934. The final decision was made at a meeting in New York at the office of member W. Alton Jones. Roberts proposed the event be called the Masters Tournament, but Bobby Jones objected thinking it too presumptuous. The name Augusta National Invitation Tournament was adopted and the title was used for five years until 1939 when Jones relented and the name was officially changed. An early decision was whether Jones would play or serve as an official. Jones preferred not to compete but was persuaded by the Club's members to join the field. In the 12 Tournaments that Jones played, his best finish was 13th in 1934.
Many decisions made in the early days of the Tournament remain today. Among these are the four-day stroke playing of 18 holes each day instead of the then customary 36 holes on the third day, eliminating qualifying rounds, and denying permission for anyone except the player and caddie to be in the playing area. A complimentary pairing sheet and a spectator booklet were provided, and commercialization in any form of the Tournament was limited.
The first Tournament was held March 22, 1934, and beginning in 1940, the Masters was scheduled each year during the first full week in April. That first Tournament was won by Horton Smith, and in the Fall of 1934 the nines were reversed. In 1935 Gene Sarazen hit "the shot heard 'round the world" scoring a double eagle on the par 5 15th hole, tying Craig Wood and forcing a playoff. Sarazen won the 36-hole playoff the following day by five strokes. In 1942 Byron Nelson defeated Ben Hogan 69-70 in an 18-hole playoff and the Tournament was not played the following three years, 1943, 1944 and 1945, during the war. To assist the war effort, cattle and turkeys were raised on the Augusta National grounds.
The 1950's included two victories by Ben Hogan, and the first of four for Arnold Palmer. Palmer's 1958 win began the tradition of Amen Corner. In 1960 the Par 3 Contest was begun, and in 1965-1966 Jack Nicklaus became the first Masters champion to defend his title successfully. During the decade of the 1970's the two founders of the Masters Tournament passed away. Both Jones and Roberts left indelible impressions on the Masters and on the world of golf. The following decade Spaniard Seve Ballesteros won twice and Tom Watson captured his second title. In 1986 at age 46, Nicklaus donned his sixth Green Jacket. And in 1997, Tiger Woods broke the Tournament four-day scoring record that had stood for 32 years. At the 2001 Masters, Woods won his fourth consecutive professional major, and in 2002 became only the third player to win consecutive Masters titles. In 2005 he became the third person to win at least four Tournaments.
Masters Trivia
The best final round score by a winner was 64 by Gary Player in 1978. Tournament or "Series" badges have been sold out since 1966. COMEBACK
In 1996, Nick Faldo started the final round six strokes behind leader Greg Norman, but won the Tournament by five.
Does the winner get to keep the
Masters Champion Green Jacket?
The Masters champion gets to take the Green Jacket home with him and keep it for a year. When he returns to Augusta National the following year, he returns the jacket to the club. From that point on, the champion has "visitation rights" to his Green Jacket. The jacket is considered his, and when he visits Augusta National at any point thereafter, he can retrieve and wear his jacket. |

Cuban
San Cristobal de La Habana

San Cristbal de la Habana was the original name of Havana, Cuba's capital city, when it was founded in 1519; San Cristbal (St Christopher) in honour of Columbus and La abana after an Indian name for the site.
San Cristbal de la Habana cigars were introduced in 1999 as a tribute to the city's long history on the threshold of the new Millennium.
Its range is composed of four vitolas with a light to medium flavour using tobaccos from the Vuelta Abajo region. Each is named after one of the fortresses that defended the city in the days when it was the hub of Spain's Latin American Empire.
All are "totalmente a mano, tripa larga"-totally hand made, long filler and two sizes, El Morro and La Fuerza, are not found in any other Habano brand.
Flavour Ranking: Light to Medium.
Further Information
about this fine Cuban Cigar
San Cristobal is a very unique line for Cuba. A subtle sweetness is found in the flavor, along with some light almond notes and a fermented undertone, reminiscent of honey mead. A wonderful afternoon cigar brand that pairs well with dry white wines, sherry and even a cold lager, or better yet, a honey ale.

Cuban Cigar Review
BOLIVAR
Belicoso Fino
5 1/2 x 52 campana
reviewed by D
This is an impressive cigar. In my ten years in the business, there are several Cuban cigars that I have never, I mean never heard a client say he did not enjoy and this is one of the them.
A little stronger than the Royal Corona, this cigar also has more depth of flavor to it. Darkly roasted coffee bean tones with some leather hints and a soft burnt vanilla that lingers on the palette.
The second half became stronger and darker. Charred wood, strong cocoa and burnished leather with an almost burnt almond finish. Fantastic flavors in a robust powerhouse cigar. I highly reccomend this as a perfect after dinner cigar.
Smoke this in the afternoon on an empty stomach at your peril. You will turn green at the gills and swaying from the dizzying power.
My overall rating is 92/100.
CA Magazine's most recent rating was a 93/100 January 2013

Just Joking...
Your chuckle for the week
A husband and wife are shopping in their local supermarket.
The husband picks up a case of Budweiser and puts it in their cart.
"What do you think you're doing?" asks the wife. "They're on sale, only $10 for 24 cans" he replies. "Put them back, we can't afford them" demands the wife, and so they carry on shopping.
A few aisles further on along the woman picks up a $20 jar of face cream and puts it in the basket.
"What do you think you're doing?" asks the husband. "It's my face cream. It makes me look beautiful," replies the wife. Her husband retorts: "So does 24 cans of Budweiser and it's half the price." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After a tiring day, a commuter settled down in her seat and closed her eyes.
As the train rolled out of the station, the guy sitting next to her pulled out his cell phone and started talking in a loud voice: "Hi sweetheart. It's Bob. I'm on the train". "Yes, I know it's the six thirty and not the four thirty, but I had a long meeting". "No, honey, not with that blonde from the accounts office. It was with the boss". "No sweetheart, you're the only one in my life". "Yes, I'm sure, cross my heart"
Fifteen minutes later, he was still talking loudly. When the young woman sitting next to him had enough, she leaned over and said into the phone, "Bob, hang up the phone and come back to bed."
Bob doesn't use his cell phone in public any longer.

Why Men Wear Earrings ! Did you ever wonder why earrings became so popular with men?
A man is at work one day when he notices that his co-worker is wearing an earring.
The man knows his co-worker to be a normally conservative fellow, and is curious about his sudden change in "fashion sense"
The man walks up to him and says, "I didn't know you were into earrings."
"Don't make it such a big deal, it's only an earring," he replies sheepishly.
His friend falls silent for a few minutes, but then his curiosity prods him to ask,
"So, how long have you been wearing one?"
Guy hangs his head and says quietly "Ever since my wife found it in my truck."
(I always wondered how this trend got started.) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
