Greetings!
The New Year brings promise. Not in surprises, though there is always a share of those, but in a clean slate that allows us to make it what we want it to be. Often the year spins so fast, I never get too many goals.
This year, I have made some commitments to myself that I intend to keep!
Spend more quality time with friends, enjoying a Cuban cigar, a game, a dinner etc... Friendship is hard, and I am often the one saying I am too busy for friends. That ends this year, I vow to spend some time, especially with my Cuban cigar buddies!
Organize and prioritize, this is one I try for every year, yet fall short. The reason, no deadlines on completion. I am making a timetable for CanadianCigar.com website improvements, adding customer reviews to the site, a search function, a shop by strength and more...
I know you all have your own version of tasks for the coming new year, but remember that the hobby of Cuban cigars is one that requires time and reflection. It is one of the last true manly hobbies and I am going to put aside the time to appreciate each cigar the way it deserves.
So Happy New Year to you all, I hope the year brings renewed prosperity and happiness in the form that you seek.

2012 Limited Edition Robusto
Of all the 2012 Cuban Limited Editions, this is the one being most talked about and appreciated!
Cuban Limited Editions are characterized by vitolas-sizes- that do not appear in the usual range of the brand portfolio portfolio, and they are distinguished by a careful selection of their leaves - wrapper, filler and binder- which have been aged for a period of at least 2 years.
The wrapper leaves on these Habanos comes from the top leaves of the Tapado - shade grown- black Cuban tobacco plant, and is relevant characteristic that identifies these special productions. This wrapper is usually darker than the wrappers of regular range sizes of the brand.
The Ediciones Limitadas are made with the finest tobacco leaves coming from Vuelta Abajo* (D.O.P), Cuba.\
 H. Upmann Robustos (ring gauge 50 x 124 mm in length) is the selected size for this Edici�n Limitada. The Robustos size does not exist in the permanent range of H. Upmann, but it had a great acceptance when launched in an exclusive Travel humidor at Cannes Fair in 2008. The Robustos size is highly appreciated by Habanos smokers. They will now have the occasion to enjoy it within the H. Upmann brand with the special blend and features of flavour and aroma of the Edici�n Limitada.

Cohiba Piramide Extra - After much hype and waiting it's finally here.
Cohiba has added the Piramide Extra to its regular production run.
The cigar I chose had a medium shade wrapper a 3/6. In my opinion this is still a young cigar and if possible I would suggest aging it.
This cigar has lots of potential, I didn't taste the usual Cohiba flavors.
The closest cigar I would compare it to would be the Siglo IV. When I first lit the cigar I tasted charcoal followed by a slight bitterness. Shortly thereafter a spicy nuttiness took over that soften all previous flavors.
This is a well constructed cigar and a welcomed addition to the Cohiba line.
My overall rating for this cigar is 91/100

Having been stricken with the flu much of the holiday this year, I was in dire need of a Cuban cigar once things finally improved. I wanted something that would last and that I had not smoked in some time. Answer was the Hoyo de Monterrey Double Corona.
Smooth light wrapper, nice and oily, with a subtle but fine woody aroma. Upon lighting, I found the traditional fresh wood, slight cedar and even a little camp fire. At about half way it changed to include some burnt orange peel, some real nice allspice tones and a finish of a light latte. The final third was much stronger, yet still on the latte side, good to the last drop, so to speak. Graham and Cam would have made fun, as I was enjoying it so much I slipped the band off to get to the very nub of this stogie.
My overal rating was a 89/100 and would have been higher if a little stronger.

Your Chuckle for today
Last week was my birthday and I didn't feel very well waking up on that morning. I went downstairs for breakfast hoping my wife would be pleasant and say "Happy Birthday!" and possibly have a small present for me. As it turned out she barely said good morning let alone "Happy Birthday".
I thought... well, that's marriage for you, but the kids... they'll remember. Soon enough my kids came bounding down stairs to breakfast and didn't say a word.
So when I left for the office I felt pretty low and somewhat despondent. As I walked into my office my secretary Jane said "Good Morning, boss! And by the way Happy Birthday!" It felt a little better that at least someone had remembered.
I worked until one o'clock when Jane knocked on my door and said "You know it's such a beautiful day outside and it is your birthday. What do you say we go out to lunch just you and me...?" I said "Thanks, Jane, that's the greatest thing I've heard all day. Let's go!"
We went to lunch. But we didn't go where we normally would go. She chose instead at a quiet bistro with a private table. We had two martinis each and I enjoyed the meal, and her company, tremendously.
On the way back to the office Jane said "You know it's such a beautiful day... we don't need to go straight back to the office... do we...?" "Nahhh" I said "What do you have in mind?" She said "Let's drop by my apartment - it's just around the corner".
After arriving at her apartment Jane turned to me and said "Boss, if you don't mind, I'm going to step into the bedroom for just a moment. I'll be right back". "Okay" I nervously replied. She went into the bedroom and after a couple of minutes came out carrying a huge birthday cake...
Followed by my wife, my kids, and dozens of my friends and co-workers, all singing "Happy Birthday".
And I just sat there... on the couch... naked. |
