Fine Arts Showcase "Around the World" celebrates fine arts education in Mercer Island schools. This annual event raises funds for Fine Arts programs throughout the school district and highlights the wide variety of creative talent from our art students in Performing and Visual Arts.
Tuesday night features a Spotlight on Visual Art with many art activities for all ages. Wednesday shines a Spotlight on Performing Arts with spectacular performances in the gym including the All 3rd Grade Choir. Visual art will be displayed throughout the high school on both nights with works by each MISD elementary student, and middle and high school art students.
Ticket donation is $10 in advance/$15 at the door. Tickets are good for both nights! Consider becoming a Patron for preferred parking & early seating for the Performing Arts Night. For online registration go to www.mifineartsed.org. Funds raised at the Showcase go directly into the schools to support all the arts at all grade levels.
Dante's Inferno Dogs will be providing Gourmet hot dogs (including veggie dogs) for purchase each night.
Volunteer! Showcase needs your help! This event wouldn't be possible without volunteers supporting our children's fine arts activities. Show your support for your kids and the arts and volunteer here.

Mercer Island FC Select and Premier Soccer information night
Mercer Island FC (originally known as Mercer Island Youth Soccer Club) was established in 1964. While the club name changed to Mercer Island FC (MIFC) in recent years, our focus hasn't. We have had the same mission for 50 years - to develop and promote physical and mental fitness, sportsmanship, skill development, citizenship and teamwork for the boys and girls of our community under nineteen years of age through participation in the game of soccer.
Our annual informational parent meeting on playing Select and Premier Soccer on Mercer Island is scheduled for Wednesday evening, March 4th. MIFC Vice President of Select Soccer, Ketu Shah, will present information on the upcoming tryouts for MIFC teams. In addition to our regular compliment of Boys and Girls teams from U11 to U18, we will be adding a new Select U10 level for Boys and Girls this year. Find out if this would be a good fit for your child(ren) and get all of your questions on playing, coaching, tryouts, player commitment and cost answered. While all parents are invited, the information will be most useful to families new to Select and Premier soccer.
In addition to MIFC board members, on hand will be representatives from Eastside FC, MIFC's partner for Premier soccer on the eastside. They can help with questions about Premier soccer, their tryout schedule, player commitment and costs. Eastside FC is the only Premier club recognized by Washington Youth Soccer in our Association.
The meeting details:
Date: Wednesday, March 4th
Time: 7:15 pm - 8:30 pm
Location: MI Community Center
In addition to information on MIFC's Select Soccer offerings, we will also be honoring our very own Select GU14 Maroon team and coaches who won the recent 2015 Washington Youth Soccer State Championship!
We look forward to seeing you there!
Sincerely,
Toby Suhm - MIFC President
Ketu Shah - MIFC VP of Select Soccer
Stephanie Wyss - MIFC Select Soccer Registrar

Mercer Island High School Juniors and Graduating Seniors
Apply now for the first ever Mercer Island Schools Foundation $1,500 Scholarship
While this year's high school graduation is still four months away, many juniors and seniors have long been thinking about and planning for what's next. Applying for scholarships is often a part of such preparations and the Mercer Island Schools Foundation is proud to have created the first scholarship of it kind exclusively for Mercer Island High School juniors and graduating seniors.
The Mercer Island Schools Foundation Board of Directors wants to hear directly from students about how donations from the community and its investment in public education has directly supported, enhanced and enriched the classroom experience and inspired their personal education. It is our hope that our donors have inspired our students and that one day, they, too, will make their own important contributions to the lives of others and their community.
MIHS juniors and seniors applying for the scholarship will: (1) explain how a MISF funded program(s) helped them overcome a challenge or inspired them for their future (600 words or less); and, (2) describe the college, university, trade or technical school they hope/plan to attend, which courses of study they plan to pursue, and their reasons why (350 words or less). Completed essays must be accompanied by an application and are due no later than March 20, 2015. Interviews will be conducted the last week of March and first week of April.
More information including rules, terms of selection, and the application can be found on the MISF website at www.MercerIslandSchoolsFoundation.com/Scholarship. Students may contact the MISF office at misf@misf.com or visit the MIHS Counseling Center for more details.
