The Simpsonwood UMC El Salvador Mission Trip
May 29 thru June 5, 2016
Thank You for allowing us
to represent Simpsonwood UMC
The Mission locations are in Ahuachapn, La Gloria and Los Horcones in the Ahuachapn district of El Salvador. The Ahuachapn district is the most westerly district in El Salvador. La Gloria is a western suburban of Ahuachapn and one of the poorest. Los Horcones is west of Ahuachapn approximately halfway to the Guatemala border (12km), it is predominantly a farming community.
The church in La Gloria is led by Gloria and meets in a home about 3 blocks from the construction site of the new church building. Gloria has a strong children's and women's program, she has church activities at least 6 days a week.
Jose Aroche leads the church in Los Horcones. The church started meeting weekly approximately 1 year ago. They are meeting temporarily in a family's home until a property can be purchased and something more permanently built. The community has enthusiastically received this plant church, it may be new and small but the Spirit is at work there to help it grow.
Your 2016 El Salvador Mission team delivered 50 bags of food to residents of La Gloria and Los Horcones. Along with these food delivers the team visited with these 44 families to help strengthen their relationship with local pastors Gloria and Jose Aroche, the Methodist church, and Jesus Christ.
We held 9 Children's Bible Study sessions in La Gloria and Los Horcones The team also distributed 170 reading and 115 sun glasses in these villages
Even though it was a new activity for our team there were 25 women that attended the 3 sessions of women's bible study led by Stephanie Apsey in the village of La Gloria.
Your SUMC team worked five days digging, mixing concrete, bending rebar, building forms and pouring cement for the 1st wall on the property for the church building in La Gloria.
We as a team were able to strength the relationship between Simpsonwood UMC and the staff of the Methodist Churches in El Salvador. And as individuals we developed a stronger relationship with the people in Ahuachapn.
Your SUMC team consisted of: Stephanie Apsey, Tom Apsey, Bryan Coats, Kim Dorough, Steve Dorough, Kevin Hill (Team Leader),
Harley Jones, James Sampson
When you see any of the team members please ask them to tell you part of their story of how the Spirit worked through them during our week.
Bottom line we found the Holy Spirit is strong in El Salvador and its people. And praise God we were called to be part of it.

CAN YOU SAY CLEAN WATER?
Our Honduras mission team of 19 departed last Saturday to work with HOI. One of the many ways they will be serving the people in the villages, will be education about clean water and the installation of clean water filters. To-date, we have received almost $9,500 in donations through our water-bottle project!!!
Isn't that just AWESOME?
Thank you, Simpsonwood family, for your incredible generosity and desire to make Him known across the world

Invitation to tour the new Good Samaritan Health Center on June 27:
Our church has supported this local charity for many years. The center provides low cost medical care for the uninsured poor in northeast Atlanta.
The demand is overwhelming but Good Samaritan steadfastly follows their Christian directive to heal and bring hope to those who are least able to help themselves. On July 25, Good Samaritan opens the doors to their new, larger facility at 539 South Peachtree Street in Norcross. This expansion will not only bring medical aid to countless new patients but will also provide dental, mental health and pharmacy services not previously possible.
The director of Good Samaritan, Greg Lang, will show off the new facility to Simpsonwood's liaison, Gary Czajkowski, on Monday, June 27 at 6:00 PM. Gary would like to invite any interested members to join him for this short tour.
Simpsonwood has pledged financial support but also hopes to eventually place one or more professional volunteers. The center needs help with the services just mentioned as well as in language translation. We are all called to practice our faith, and volunteering to give back to the least in our community is a perfect gift. Whether you are in position to volunteer and wish to discuss that possibility with the director or simply want to witness the good work being done in our midst, don't hesitate to call Gary and come along. His phone number is 404-449-7369.

Dear Church and Preschool Families:
As you may already know, Sally Katz has been appointed the new preschool director. (See introduction letter below from our Preschool Board Chair, Erin Masters)
We have been working together since May 31st and will continue to do so through July 1st.
Please direct all questions or concerns regarding the preschool to Sally ([email protected]) beginning July 1.
Blessings,
Andrea
Dear Church and Preschool Families:
The SUMC Preschool Board is pleased to announce that we have hired a wonderful new Preschool Director. Sally Katz comes to us from Christ the King Preschool where she has been a Lead Teacher for the last 4 years. Before that, she was very active on their preschool board, and was a co-lead teacher. She has worked very closely with the director at Christ the King and served in numerous roles and positions. Prior to the preschool world, she graduated from the University of Georgia and worked as a Project Manager for a Property Management company. We are confident her business experience paired with her preschool experience make her a great match for us.
Sally and her husband Seth, have two children, Ben (9) and Emily (3). They live in Peachtree Corners and are very active in our community. Their daughter Emily will also be joining us in the fall and is thrilled.
The Church and the board are very proud and excited to welcome Sally to the Simpsonwood family and we look forward to exciting times ahead.
Erin Masters
