Children's Ministry News

I just wanted to update you on a few things happening in the Children's Ministry.

#1 - Vacation Bible School 2016 (July 18-22):
For one week every summer, children from age 4 through completed 5th Grade come to the church to enjoy a fun time of learning. The dates for 2016 are July 18 - 22; 9:30am - 12:30pm each day. Ages: (4 years old as of 9/1/2016) through completed 5th Grade only. Registration will continue through June 1st. Click Here for  the registration form. Hard copies can also be found outside of my office in Building B.
Don't wait to sign up....we are already over half way full!! Invite your friends!!

#2 - Summer Sunday School (June 5th - July 31st):
It's hard to believe, but the end of the school year is right around the corner! We are offering 3 classes during the summer. However, we need your help to make this happen. Please click on the links to see where you can sign up to volunteer.
  • Click here for 3 & 4 Year Olds (Led by Linda Poland)
  • Click here for Kindergarten - 2nd Grade (Led by Brenda Banks)
  • Click here for 3rd - 5th Grade (Led by Bryan Coats)

#3 - Children's Scripture Readers:
Dr. Clark would love to have children read the scripture during all three worship services on Sunday mornings (8:45 Contemporary, 11:00 Traditional, & 11:00 Renew). This is a great way to get more children
involved in the worship services. Please let me know if your child has an interest!

#4 - Water Bottles for Honduras:
You probably have already noticed all the water bottles for Honduras around the church campus. This is for a great cause! By collecting incremental funds we can empower schools in Honduras to have safe
drinking water. Use our donation bottle to collect coins and bills at home, in your car, at events, or at work. I'll also be passing out water bottles at our next Sunday School, 45's, and Mission 252 gatherings.
Finally, I will give the first child that comes into my office (with a parent) my change collection jar.

My door is always open if you need anything.
Your friend in Christ,
Director of Children's Ministry

Dear Church Families and Preschool Families,

I wish to thank everyone for allowing me the honor and privilege of serving in the preschool ministry for 25 years.

Thank you to the wonderful Church staff and Church families, to the dedicated and loving teachers, and to all the preschool families who shared their children with us and entrusted them to our care.

...and, of course, thank you to the many precious children who have been the heart of this ministry.  They continue to put a smile on my face and I continue to learn from them a little bit more about life each and every day.

I love this Church.  I love this ministry.

Thank you for your kindness and support.  Thank you for the memories.

Love and blessings,
Andrea

The Young Harris Scholarship Fund has funds available whenever we have interested applicants from our church youth. Each year, Nathan Emmelhainz, Interim Director of Student Ministries, and Michelle Wehrheim, Youth Administrative Assistant, make information about Young Harris and the available scholarship known to eligible students at Simpsonwood.

Students that receive the Simpsonwood scholarship usually receive matching funds from the United Methodist Leadership Scholars program (UMLS). The UMLS program is designed to encourage active UM students to attend a United Methodist-related college or university by offering these funds. The UMLS program is part of the UMHEF funds (Higher Education Funding).

Scholarship Committee policies:
 Application Deadlines
  • Applicants must come before the SUMC YHC Scholarship Committee by November 1.
  • Applicants should apply to YHC by mid-October.
    • Applicants should come before the SUMC YHC Scholarship Committee as soon as they  are accepted to YHC to apply for scholarship funds.

Please contact Linda Romarion in the church office for further information:  770-441-2181   [email protected]

Can you crochet or knit??

We Need YOUR Help!

The Prayer Warriors are almost completely out of prayer shawls to give to the precious members and friends that are going through a difficult time and need prayer. We use the shawls to remind them that they are being prayed for on a weekly basis in our Prayer Warriors ministry.

We need shawls for men and women, young and old!! If you can minister in this way please contact Jann Roeder. We have some funds to help you to purchase the yarn.

Thanks so much for all you do!!

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord."
