Our FEBRUARY WE LOVE OUR COMMUNITY DRIVE

was a tremendous success!  Huge thanks to our Simpsonwood family for putting their compassion into action!  Many of you joined in this missional effort to help those in need.  Special thanks to our Preschool, Youth and Children's ministries for their dedication to this drive to support both the Norcross Cooperative Ministry and the
United Methodist Children's Home.

Simpsonwood Lends

a Helping Hand

Simpsonwood UMC has established a program to assist members and regular attendees of Simpsonwood UMC when an unusual event disrupts the financial stability of the member/family.   The program is called the Member Assistance Fund and is managed by a subcommittee of Missions consisting of three at-large members of the congregation.   The Fund has been setup as a SUMC designated account; as such, the funds will be solely used to support the mission of helping members and regular attendees who need temporary assistance.  The subcommittee has developed a charter that stipulates both the criteria for recipient funding and concurrence with IRS guidelines.  The subcommittee currently consists of Johnny Johns, chair; Lee Wright and Tony Crowe.

Criteria for Gifts-

  1. Assistance to any one family will generally be limited to no more than $1,000 each six months.
  2. If the fund balance is such that more assistance can be provided to any one person/family, the committee will have the discretion to do so.
  3. No assistance from multiple SUMC sources within the same 12 month period; e.g. HOPE person who attends SUMC or someone receiving scholarship funds is not eligible for member assistance
  4. Criteria for receiving help will be limited to unusual/catastrophic events such as loss of job; illness/accident that disrupt the stability of the family.

The Member Assistance Fund has received initial funding from the mission committee to begin the program in January 2015.  Three requests have already been evaluated by the committee.  Donations to the fund are appreciated and will be managed in the best interest of SUMC and the members who need a helping hand.

Assurance of donor tax deductibility-

  • A donor cannot specify a recipient by name.  The donor's check must be made payable to SUMC and stipulate in the "for" section "Member Assistance Fund."  Once a check is given to SUMC, it will become the property of SUMC, and the Member Assistance Subcommittee ("MAS") will have the sole discretion as to the use of the funds.  The donation to the Member Assistance Fund is tax deductible.
  • All members and regular attendees of Simpsonwood are eligible for help.

If any question, please talk with Pastor Brian  or Johnny Johns.

Dear friends of El Salvador

Our May trip is only 2 1/2  months away: May 26 through June 3

Teams are finishing up work at El Shaddai. So there is a chance we may be finishing work there or going on to the next site at La Gloria or both. Whichever, this will be an outstanding opportunity to serve.

Passports need to be requested or updated soon. (This applies for any international mission or travel outside the USA. For the El Salvador trip they need to be valid until December 3rd, 2015, so to be safe if it expires this year renew it and if you don't have one order it.)

The price of the trip will be $530 plus air travel. Our flights are Delta flight are 872 (ATL to SAL) on May 26 and 374 (SAL to ATL) on June 3, the price this morning is $700.13. The price has varied from $600 to $900 for the last couple trips. If you're comfortable with the current price go ahead and purchase and let me know.

Feel free to email or call with any question.

God Bless

Mid-High Retreat: Faith & Sexuality - April 24-26

Talking about "the birds and the bees" can be an incredible uncomfortable experience. But we in the Student Ministries department understand that it's an important conversation to have. That is why we host every two years a special retreat designed for all 7th-8th grade students. This retreat is designed to be an incredibly fun weekend that also includes frank, open and honest conversations about the gift of sexuality with a team of trained and mature adult leaders. With thoughtful and prayerful preparation, and with guidance from the United Methodist Book of Discipline, all participants and leaders will grow in their faith and their understanding of this significant gift. Click the big red button in upper right corner of all pages on simpsonwoodyouth.org labeled "Click here to register and pay online" to sign up. Registration and payment deadline is March 22. If you have any questions, contact the student ministries office at 770-441-2181.

10-11am: Special combined Confirmation worship service featuring members from all three worship teams.

Reception in the Family Life Center (Building C) to follow.

Can you crochet or knit??

We Need YOUR Help!

The Prayer Warriors are almost completely out of prayer shawls to give to the precious members and friends that are going through a difficult time and need prayer. We use the shawls to remind them that they are being prayed for on a weekly basis in our Prayer Warriors ministry.

We need shawls for men and women, young and old!! If you can minister in this way please contact Jann Roeder. We have some funds to help you to purchase the yarn.

Thanks so much for all you do!!

IMMEDIATE NEED!! (Not met yet!!)

One of our beautiful HOPE families need a kitchen table and chairs that seat 6 people. The set needs to be very small due to the size of the apartment. If you have something available please let Jann Roeder know.

Opportunities to Support

Simpsonwood's Own Ministry

Ask a HOPE Ministry family to dinner, Six Flags, a movie,  shopping spree, food/ gas cards, car repairs, babysitting, etc. etc.  If a family would like to reach out to any HOPE family and treat them to anything it would be a great mission outreach and such a treat for the HOPE family.  We have adopted a new family for 2015.  Sponsorship of  an entire family (no financial obligation involved) is another opportunity.

Please let

Jann Roeder know if you would like to become involved with HOPE Ministry.
