Greetings!

I have been champing at the bit to start rehearsals for The Whale, and finally, tomorrow is day one. I'm so looking forward to the "meet and greet" and the first table read. Director Martin Benson has assembled a terrific cast to tackle Sam Hunter's beautiful and moving script. The rest of the creative team has been hard at work on set, sound, lighting, wardrobe, and marketing, and tomorrow we'll get to see presentations from everyone on what they've been doing.

My re-branding as Matthew Arkin Studio has received very favorable support, and if you haven't seen the new redesigned website, take a look. Also please "like" the new Facebook page for the studio when you have a chance.

This next installment of Navigating The Whale covers the continuing work of preparation for this role, and includes some great photos of the prosthetics construction process. Check it out, and the play, if you get a chance. It will run from March 10th through March 31st, and ticket information is available here.

And remember, pilot season is well upon us, so take advantage of private audition coaching. Schedule a session as soon as possible after you get your audition, and put yourself in top form.

Acting class is ongoing, and newcomers are welcome to join at any time. Please come by and check out what we're doing any Monday night. We'd love to have you. And feel free to to your friends and tell them to get in touch.

Peace.

Matthew.

I sit in a chair in the costume shop, and I suddenly find it a little hard to breath. I am almost overwhelmed with sadness, a feeling of isolation, and a distant sense of a deeply buried rage. I've come down to South Coast Rep for a fitting with Amy Hutto and Laurie Donati, who are designing and building what I am calling "my body." I am calling it my body because, as I mentioned in an earlier post, I don't want to call it by the more common industry name. I will inhabit it this body to become Charlie in The Whale.
