GIVE TO THE MAX NOVEMBER 13, 2014
|
| You have probably heard of the 24 hour annual Give to the Max Day. This year you can support Prince of Peace by going to our Give To The Max Page on November 13 and making a donation to support the life-changing ministry we share. On November 13, Minnesota's Give to the Max Day, your gift may even help us win an extra $1,000 to support our work in our community and the world. Every gift made on November 13 helps our chances of winning a $1,000 Golden Ticket! By partnering with Give MN, an online giving website for Minnesota nonprofits, Prince of Peace will have 25 chances to maximize your gift on Give to the Max Day! Here's the really exciting part: At the end of Give to the Max Day, one donation from across Minnesota will be randomly selected for a $10,000 Super-sized Golden Ticket! Give to the Max Day is a great opportunity for our church to finish the year strong and help close the gap in our ministry budget for the year. Make your gift on November 13 by visiting our Give To The Max Page. You can also schedule your gift ahead of time, so you can be sure your donation will go through without issue (if you don't want to remember to do it the day of); it will still be eligible for the Golden Ticket.
To avoid the fees you can also donate by putting "GTTM" in the memo of your check and drop it in the offering plate. Thank you! P.S. Remember: At the end of Give to the Max Day, one donation from across Minnesota will be randomly selected for a $10,000 Super-sized Golden Ticket! Your gift helps increase our odds on November 13! |

POP QUILTERS
|
|
Mark your calendars! The Prince of Peace Quilters plan to hold their annual quilt sale on Sunday, December 7.
We plan to have more large-sized quilts available this year. Proceeds from the quilt sale are used to buy batting and supplies for quilts that are made and donated to the women's shelter, the VA hospital, Sharing & Caring Hands, Bridging, Red Cross, Salvation Army and the homeless.
Donations of cotton or cotton/polyester fabric or sheets are always welcome (no knits, silky or heavy fabrics please). These are used to make the quilt tops or quilt backing. Even if the sheet isn't perfect (e.g., it has a bad spot or tear), we most often can still use part of it to make quilt-top squares.
Do you have an interest in joining this group? We welcome anyone who can simply tie a knot or cut a square - sewing skills are not needed! We are a small group that meets at the church from 9 a.m. to noon on the first, third and fifth Wednesday of each month, September through May. We break midway through each session to enjoy a cup of coffee/tea, a sweet treat and friendly conversation. If you can't make every meeting, no worries. Feel free to join us anytime for a morning of fellowship, knowing that you're helping a worthy cause. We derive much enjoyment and satisfaction working with the lovely fabrics and pieced quilt tops, knowing that our efforts provide warmth and comfort to those in need.
We hope to see you at the quilt sale on December 7!

BROOKLYN AVENUES COMMUNITY CONCERT
|
|
The parking lot and church were filled, strangers were welcomed, workers and guests from many area churches came together, city officials were present and wonderful music filled Prince of Peace. It was all part of the benefit concert on October 11 for Brooklyn Avenues with Robert Robinson and the Brooklyn Big Band. Thank you Prince of Peace for responding and being such a wonderful host!
Thank you staff for helping with office and financial tasks and for your message Pastor Chad. Thank you members for many things including - planning, tech support, poster distribution, mailings, baking bars, serving, setting up and taking down risers, taking photos, attending the parking lot, ushering and greeting, setting up mics, sound and video, cleaning and reorganizing and for your generous monetary gifts toward our new homeless youth shelter! Our whole church body was at work - all to God's glory!
With the Bremer Foundation match almost $30,000 will go to the operating costs of the shelter.
Thank you and God bless. Concert Planning Committee |

 Brent Haglund
Director of
Youth and Family Ministry
2015 Revolution Mission Trip: Pine Ridge, South Dakota
A partnership with Lutherans Outdoors in South Dakota and the people of the Pine Ridge Reservation.
Our goal: To reach out in Christian love and walk alongside our neighbors of the Lakota culture. We will spend a week on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation listening to Native American speakers, playing with Lakota youth, working on a service project, worshiping together, and learning about issues of poverty, diversity, multiculturalism, and Lakota spiritual belief and practice. We will make new friends as we become immersed in Lakota culture.
When: July 12-17 (Sunday-Friday) Cost: $400
How to help: Pray. Attend & eat at the Stewardship Celebration Brunch (waffles, yum!). Make a specific donation to the Youth Missions Fund at POP. Thank you!
Axis & Revolution Combine for First MESH Night
An idea born from our TIM Team leaders at camp this summer, MESH Night provides opportunities for kids in Axis & Revolution to build relationships across their age groups. Our first try at this saw these groups team up in donating several baskets full of clothes for CEAP/Avenues for Youth, make 200 homeless care packages to be distributed from cars to people encountered on the streets, & of course play some crazy games.
Family Faith Night Resources for Everyone!
Each month in Axis we have Family Faith Night. These evenings are a time for families to practice at church some faith building exercises that can be done in the home (or on the road, or wherever you your life takes you!). This year we are focusing on 4 Keys for Practicing Faith in Daily Living from Vibrant Faith. However, we don't just want to keep this stuff for ourselves! Below you will find links to resources we often employ in our Family Faith Night activities. Take a look!
www.faith5.org - 5 faith practices that can be done every day, in every home.
Holding Your Family Together - This book goes in depth on the FAITH 5 & the holistic benefits that are possible from practicing your faith together as a family.
uPlan College
Planning Strategies Workshop
Did you miss this workshop we hosted last month? Would you attend if we scheduled another one? Let Brent know & we will work to make that happen if there is enough interest.
You hear it all the time, "Start saving for college now!" But did you know there are ways to save on college? In this workshop you will learn strategies and receive tools to lessen the actual cost of college tuition. Follow up consultations will be offered to those who attend.
