  WORSHIP

Psalm 25:4-5
"He answered:  "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and, Love your neighbor as yourself"

Miss a Sunday? Need to revisit a meaningful message? Want to share a message with a friend? Find it here.

TRUNK-OR-TREAT

Trunk-or-Treat is just around the corner and we need CARS!  This is a community wide event and we need YOU to decorate your car trunk and come to Church on Saturday, October 25th.  Trunk-or-treating will happen from 10:00-11:30.  There will also be crafts, games and activities from 10-12.

If you're interested in decorating your car trunk, please let Katie know ASAP.

GROUPLIFE

GroupLife

Groups at POP do life together, providing opportunities to grow deep in faith and build significant relationships. Jesus modeled this living by his own way of ministry, inviting many to join him, but going deeper with a select few. We need this kind of community to truly live.

Our Fall  GroupLife Series kicks off this week.  Consider where you might fit into a group and sign up. If you need help finding a group that fits or if you have questions contact Natalia at 763-560-8958 or email nataliat@princeofpeacechurch.org

 THEOLOGY on TAP

Our next Theology on Tap meeting is Tuesday, October 21 , at
Freehouse in Minneapolis.

Theology on Tap is an extension of Young Adult Ministry at Prince of Peace. We get together once per month to have some faith filled discussion over appetizers and (adult) beverages at a local place.

The more the merrier! Invite your friends and RSVP so we know how much room we'll need. Any questions, contact Brent at brenth@princeofpeacechurch.org   See you there!!

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

Operation Christmas Child is ONE MONTH Away and we need your help.

- We are still looking for the following donations: 24 count boxes of crayons, bars of soap, packs of gum, toothpaste

- We are also looking for people who are willing to wrap boxes.  We don't have a lot left, but we do have a few.  If you are willing to wrap boxes, find Katie on a Sunday morning and she can send you home with everything you need (including paper).  You can wrap the boxes at home and return them to church by Wed., November 12th.

-Be here on November 16th to help us fill our goal of 500 boxes.  All of the supplies will be here for you - we just need to fill the boxes.

- On November 16th and 23rd we will be collecting monetary donations to help with the cost of shipping.  They estimate it will cost them around  $7 to ship each box.

ADULT CHOIR and BELL CHOIR

  choir

Recruiting Choir members!!!  Director John Myszkowski is asking that you prayerfully consider singing with Senior Choir!  "You don't need to 'read' music -- but it helps!  You don't need to commit to every rehearsal and every Sunday morning -- but it helps!  You do need to be open to God's plan for music, friendship, support, and fun working with you and through you to strengthen this community of faith!  I would love to see the size of Senior Choir double.  Having a larger group makes everyone feel and sound more comfortable and confident, even on the Sundays when members are traveling or ill.  God has created wonderful talents in you -- let Choir help you to reveal those gifts!"  Senior Choir meets Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m.  All are welcome!

Thanks!  John

MISSION JAMAICA 2015

Mission Jamaica (MJ) is a short-term "vacation with a purpose"
mission experience, which began at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Mahtomedi, MN in 1990. It combines a service project with time for reflection and spiritual rest. It allows a person to experience an international mission field that is close to home, yet far enough away to immerse into another culture for a week.  MJ missionaries invest themselves in two main areas/cities in Jamaica:
Montego Bay Area- West Haven Children's Home, JaBode (Formerly Habitat), Copse Basic School, Garland Hall Orphanage, Riverside Basic School and Medical clinics at St. John's, Sunset Beach Resort, Burnt Savannah, and Copse.
-Kingston Area- Hope Valley Experimental School, Penwood Medical clinic, Calaloo Mews Basic School, JaBode projects.

In 2014, 20 people from Prince of Peace served at West Haven Children's Home for  physically/mentally challenged and worked with the community at Burnt Savanah-Bamboo to change a shipping container into classrooms, office or other space needed by the church.

YOUTH AND FAMILY MINISTRY
Brent Haglund

For this month's Enews I'd like to share a recent post from ministry professional Marilyn Sharpe (Marilyn Sharpe Ministries LLC). I hope you'll find it helpful!

 Brent Haglund

Director of Youth and Family Ministry

WHY DOES MY CHILD NEED BOUNDARIES AND LIMITS?

No one is born knowing appropriate boundaries or limits. As parents, we need to give kids age-appropriate limits to keep them safe, to keep them moral, to teach both respect and self-respect, to help them become the person others will love and respect, and to give them a future with hope! This is a child of God you are raising.

WHAT BOUNDARIES DOES YOUR CHILD NEED NOW?

Learn what is age-appropriate, what is part of the culture where you live, and what makes your child one that other kids like and that parents want their kids to know and befriend. Now, you need to dare to be the parent your child needs you to be. Love your child enough to run the risk your child will not be your best friend today! Yes, that means making unpopular decisions.

AND HERE IS WHAT KIDS NEED:

  • Make it clear exactly what the rules are and what behavior you expect. Link them to your values.
  • Let your child know ahead the consequences of not complying.
  • Don't threaten, without follow through ... yes, every single time. Mean what you say.
  • Make it clear what is non-negotiable. Let "yes" mean "yes" and "no" mean "no."
  • Don't change your mind when your child whines or persists or throws a tantrum in public.
  • Stay calm and kind, but firm.
  • Listen to your child.
  • Help kids be successful in their "work," which is school. Teach study habits. Limit screen time.
  • Don't do the work for them. Celebrate effort and improvement, as well as accomplishments.
  • Protect enough time for adequate sleep, which is so vitally important to everything else in life.

WAYS TO DISCIPLINE THAT REALLY WORK:

  • Redirect... especially useful for your littlest kids.
  • Say, "I love you too much to let you ..."
  • Model the behaviors and values you want. That makes it contagious.
  • Communicate your expectations, describing it behaviorally.
  • Teach the behavior you want, explaining "why" as well as "what."

Catch them doing it right (or better) and affirm them. (What gets attention gets repeated!)
