TANZANIA VISION TRIP

You have probably heard by now that the group of 18 people who participated in this year's Tanzania Vision Trip have returned safely after a life changing experience in Africa.  We visited Lutheran schools, hospitals and orphanage centers. We played soccer with homeless street children and wandered through busy local markets where we saw everything from dried fish to used Green Bay Packers jerseys for sale. We traveled great distances on bumpy, dusty roads until we found ourselves just a few feet from a pride of lions or so close to a group of elephants that we had to duck from the mud they were throwing around with their trunks.

We visited both of the families living in the small safe homes provided by the 2013 Tanzania Vision Trip group. The cold, damp homes made of sticks and mud have been replaced with simple but dry and sturdy concrete houses with tin roofs.  The gratitude expressed by these families as we visited their homes high in the hills beneath Mt. Kilimanjaro was a moving reminder of the blessings that overflow from these trips.

Our group this year also visited a poor family living in a make-shift shack and struggling with health issues exacerbated by their poor living conditions. We have determined to raise the $4,000 it will take to build this family a similar home to those provided by last year's group. If you would like to contribute to this effort, simply make a check out to Prince of Peace and indicate it is for the "House for Health."  Maybe you would even like to travel to Tanzania to visit this very family after they receive their new home during the Tanzania Vision Trip 2015. Click on Tanzania Vision Trip 2015 for information and the registration form and begin making those plans now!

Check out this blog from the trip last month to see some pictures and get a good sense for what a POP Vision Trip to Tanzania is all about.  Also watch for the world premiere of the POP 2014 Tanzania Vision Trip movie, which will be shown in the CLC as soon as it is released!

SUMMER SCHEDULE

Lily and sun Sunday Worship 9:30 am  (coffee around 9)

Kabomelette will be here from 10:30-11:30 on July 27.  They serve lots of brunch/breakfast stuff (omelets, hash, etc) and then a few lunch things (kabobs).  They are awesome and really excited to be here. GET THE WORD OUT..  be a part of worship and then eat together!  It's great!!

Sunday Think Again 10:30 am Sunday discussion series
It's great to sit down with the preaching pastor right after the service to learn a bit more or ask follow up questions on what you just experienced in worship? Plan on grabbing a cup of coffee after worship and joining the group for an engaging 30 minute discussion about the sermon preached during the service. We'll keep theseThink Again conversations going throughout the summer as another way to grow deep so we are better equipped toreach out!

Wednesday join other families for the potluck meal each Wednesday beginning at 5:30 pm.  The main dish is prepared by a family or group and the potluck part (sides, desserts, etc) is provided by you.  Great food and fellowship is had by all!

Wednesday Worship is at 6:30 pm in the CLC.

THEOLOGY ON TAP

The next Theology on Tap is scheduled for 7:30 pm on Tuesday, July 22 at Clive's Roadhouse in Champlin.  It's open to everyone, so bring a friend and come check it out!  Theology on Tap is an extension of Young Adult Ministry at Prince of Peace. We get together once per month to have some faith filled discussion over appetizers and (adult) beverages at a local bar. Last month, eight of us met at Granite City in Maple Grove and talked for over two hours about Christian clichés we love and love to hate.

This month let's talk about vacations.  What do we have planned this summer?  What are ways we can stay close to God while away from our church home?  If you'd like to come or have any questions, let us know by joining the Theology On Tap group on Facebook, or contact Libby at 952-769-7676 or  elisabeth.marker@gmail.com.   That way we'll have enough chairs for everyone.  Hope to see you there!

Operation Christmas Child in July
... We need to start wrapping boxes. If you'd be willing to take boxes home to wrap, there are "bags" of boxes and Christmas wrapping paper available. Check with a staff member or usher to see about getting the supplies. Also, keep a watch for school supply sales. We need lots and lots of crayons to get to our 500.   Let's make this a Merry Christmas!

We will be holding our annual Mission Jamaica BBQ this year at Kollett and Bill Kaehlert's home.  Spouses, friends and families are welcome.  It's a great time to talk with individuals who have attended Mission Jamaica in past.  If you are thinking about going or want to hear about our experiences it's an excellent opportunity in an informal setting to learn more about the mission trips.

The Kaehlert's will be grilling hamburgers for everyone and we ask that everyone attending bring a salad, side dish or dessert to share.  Please bring your own beverage.

Our Mission Jamaica dates for 2015 are February 28 - March 7 (West Haven) and March 7 - March 14th (construction at Vision and/or Faith Chapels).  You will also have the opportunity to stay for 2 weeks - February 28 - March 14th and participate in both activities.  Please watch the bulletin and website for costs and other information about the 2015 trips.

Please contact Terri Revell (763-566-0807) if you are able to attend.   Please forward this message to other individuals who may be interested in hearing about POP Mission Jamaica trips.
