           ANNUAL MISSION JAMAICA

SILENT AUCTION

Sunday, February 2

in the Welcome Center all morning

POP's Mission Jamaica Team is holding their annual silent auction in the Welcome Center on Sunday morning, February 2, 2014.

Would you be willing to make a donation?
* Event tickets of any kind - concert, sport, expo, etc.
* A special passion to share - are you a gourmet cook, can you fly a plane, offer mechanical services, woodworking or childcare services, share a fishing experience or teach someone a skill (voice lessons, music, swimming, gardening, tennis, golf)
* Artwork, antiques, quilts, crafts
* Theme baskets are popular - Valentine's Day, new baby, special event
* Does your business have a special product to share?
* Do you have a timeshare or frequent flyer miles to donate?
* Do you have contacts that would be helpful as we search for donations?
* The list is endless as your imagination.........

Please contact Lori Clausen (763-566-3481) or Terri Revell (763-566-0807), or you can drop off your donation at church on Saturday, February 1st between 9a.m. and noon.

Mission Jamaica Team will be working and playing with physically and mentally challenged children and young adults at Westhaven Orphanage in Copse Jamaica during our first week (March 1-8th).   We will also have the opportunity to assist in repairing Cottage 2 and upgrading the bathrooms to accommodate the needs of the children.  This year we have 8 individuals who will be staying a 2nd week (March 8-15th) and 7 others who will be joining us to put a roof on a shipping container to make it into classrooms, offices, and when medical clinics are in the area - examination rooms.  This is taking place at Vision Chapel at Burnt Savanah.

We need your help to make this ministry a success. If you are not able to join us in Jamaica this year, you can be part of this ministry by donating to our Silent Auction. Thank you for your continued prayers and support as we finalize our 2014 trip

"I AM A CHURCH MEMBER"

Book Recommendation

I Am A Church Member

by Thom S. Rainer

This is a challenging little book that will be discussed during our council and staff retreat to be held on the campus of Luther Seminary on February 15.  The book outlines the basics of what it means to be an active member of a congregation.  I encourage you to join our church leadership in reading and reflecting on this important book. The Kindle version is available for just $3.99 on Amazon or you may call the church office to order a copy.  If you get the chance to read the book before our leadership retreat, email me with your thoughts and reactions and I will share them during our discussion!

''According to Thom Rainer, Church membership doesn't simply have privileges, it is a privilege. And I couldn't agree more. In I Am A Church Member Thom delivers a biblical perspective and practical approach to church membership. This little book is both refreshing and inspirational. I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend you pick it up!''
Andy Stanley, North Point Ministries.

LIBRARY NEWS

DVDS about Biblical heroes make good family viewing on a cold, wintry evening.

A couple of recommendations:

The Story of Jacob and Joseph- Colleen Dewhurst stars as Rebekah, the mother.  This movie brings the Biblical story of Joseph to life.

King David: He Changed the World Forever- Actor Richard Gere stars as David in this compelling adventure.

Stop in some Sunday morning soon!
WITH ONE VOICE!

choir The choir is looking for a few more voices to join Prince of Peace's "One Voice".    There are several   choir members who are "snowbirds" leaving the choir short some voices.  So, though you might join just to help out, you will discover it's a fun and wonderful time with some pretty terrific people!  Choir practice is on Wednesdays at 7:00 in the Worship Center.  There is also a need for some additional Bell Choir members.  They also practice on Wednesday, at 6:00 pm in the Worship Center.  Email choir director, John Myszkowski at johnfmyszkowski@comcast.net

DECEMBER FINANCIALS

Thank you for your generous year end giving! Those gifts combined with the Thrivent Choice Double Donation and building use income allowed us to end the month of December with a net gain, and the year-end deficit was less than anticipated.  Click here to see the numbers.

Look for 2014 updates around the middle of each month.

CHILDREN and FAMILY MINISTRY

POP TOTS is HERE!  POP Tots is for all children that are not quite old enough for Sunday School (birth-3 years of age) and their parents.  This will be a great opportunity for our youngest children to really get comfortable at Church and with other children their age.  This will also allow the parents to get to know each other as well.  Our first meeting will be February 1st @ 9:30.

On Monday, February 17 we will be having a Schools Out Day in honor of Presidents Day.  Weather permitting we will be heading to Central Park for some outdoor fun, followed by an afternoon back at Prince of Peace.  This is open for all School Age students (including Jr. High and High School) and will run from 8:30-4:30.  The cost is $5/child and they should bring a lunch with them.
