Hello Waldorf Families!

It is safe to say our new playground has been beyond successful!
The first day of school was such a joy to behold with our children eagerly discovering all of the new equipment. Thank you again to all who contributed and worked so hard to make it happen.

We are excited about our first all-school event, our Back to School night this Friday. We look forward to seeing everyone there.

Our high school students recently returned from their annual bonding trip. This year they enjoyed the beauty of Leo Carilllo State Beach in Malibu and had a blast camping, hiking and getting to know each other.

We are so excited to announce that beginning in October, high school junior Elise Frisby will debut her new monthly column about all things high school! Senior Rose Purdy will contribute her beautiful photographs, and we look forward to other guest contributors as well.

Please scroll down for information on Back to School, our WSOC community survey results, new Scrip offers, Parent Education opportunities, dates to remember and much more!

Blessings,

Alyssa Hamilton

Results of our 2016 Community Survey

Thanks again to all parents who responded to our annual Community Survey in June 2016. The results reflect the significantly positive relationships that parents have with the school and show that our parent community is steadfastly devoted to Waldorf education. The survey also highlights the areas where parents have concerns and where there are opportunities for improvement. You can view the survey results here, and see an overview of significant results and comparisons to last year's results here.

Regarding last year's Town Hall on class size and the Budget Preview meeting, we heard concerns about parents not being able to attend, although they were interested in the subject matter. We are exploring how we can make future events like these available remotely to parents in real time or through a recording. As the Board and the College study the survey results more closely, we will continue to address areas needing improvement, and will communicate when changes are made to address particular concerns.

Please join us for an evening lecture and morning workshop with Ted Braude.

No one knows boys, their challenges and their inner-workings like Ted Braude. As a psychologist and therapist for over 30 years, Ted is a highly sought-after speaker and author. His engaging style connects with boys of all ages as well as their parents, teachers, and other staff who all participate in the boys becoming young men. For boys to develop as passionate, productive, purposeful and potent young men, a change is required in what they encounter with parents and other adults. Ted shares a new understanding and experience of power, conflict and love that is crucial for boys to transition into young manhood.

WSOC's Adult Education program boasts record-breaking enrollment

Adult Education director and Grade 8 teacher Chris Bennett has shared with us that our Adult Education program has a record-breaking 51 students enrolled this year! That's over twice the number of those enrolled last year, he said.

Currently there are 40 students enrolled in Foundation Studies and 11 enrolled in the Grades program.

"I am so happy to see more and more local Waldorf community members participating in our Adult Education program," said Mr. Bennett. "It truly enhances a family's experience at school and deepens our understanding of the importance and beauty of a Waldorf education."

Seeking volunteers for the Festival of Children

The Festival of Children is a community-wide charity outreach event held every weekend in September, in conjunction with National Child Awareness Month.

This volunteer commitment only lasts two hours on a weekend in September and greatly helps spread the word about Waldorf in our community (it's indoors and air conditioned)! The task is easy - sit at our table in South Coast Plaza for two hours and talk about WSOC with anyone who wanders your way! An instruction sheet and talking points will be distributed.

We only need one more volunteer on Sept. 25th from 2-4! Thank you so much everyone! http://www.signupgenius.com/go/70a0e4ea9ac2aa31-festival1

Parking by the bluffs-don't get a ticket!

Parking by the bluffs is now prohibited from dusk to dawn Monday through Sunday. This means that once the sun goes down, if you are parked in the lot facing the bluffs the city of Costa Mesa will issue you a parking citation. Make sure to park in our school lots; if they are full, please ask the faculty or staff in charge of the school event you are attending to provide you with a Waldorf placard to place on your dashboard to avoid getting a ticket.
