From The College of Teachers
|
The last days of August arrive and most people are maximizing their vacations; however, our faculty came together last week for an in-house back-to-school conference. We were refreshed with artistic activities, singing and eurythmy as well as taking up study and tasks related to our ongoing accreditation work. Our circle has expanded with the two new teachers in the High School - Eric Johnson who will teach classes in Physics and Math and Steve Graff who will be teaching Math. Our Early Childhood department has the new configuration of Miss Arieta and Miss Kelli as a Kindergarten team. Teachers in all areas were delighted to see the changes and improvements on campus - a huge thank you to Nancy Mitchell (who is replacing Gina Illes until her return in January), Chris Hammer and the many other summer helping hands.
The College spent last weekend in retreat. This is a special opportunity for a contemplation of where we are headed for the upcoming year. College members remaining from last year are Andrea Hubert, who will be co-chairing with Lisa Masterson, Catherine Averett, Barbara Cubanski, Christiane Bohr, Chris Bennett, Kimberley Telfer-Radzat, Masami Inoue, Angie Meier, Deb Waring, Brad Holm, Kurt Faerber, Robin Theiss and Jenell Carlson; The College looks forward to new members joining this fall.
The College and Board also had a joint meeting last week. We reviewed and updated our strategic goals, looked at our five year planning and reviewed the community survey results. We resolved to meet together more frequently this upcoming year and look forward to the study of the three-fold social organization which is the ideal in Waldorf schools.
With all these events, we are primed and excited to face the new school year!

It seems, our beloved Administrator, Gina Illes, has not gotten the memo that summer vacation is over! Luckily we spotted a faculty member out on the bluffs walking her dogs and solicited her services.
Seriously, Gina has taken her entire family to visit her mother who lives in Spain. They will explore the European continent and return at the semester. At which time Gina will resume her position as Administrator extraordinaire.
We are pleased to announce that Nancy Mitchell will be the Interim Administrator. Nancy has just taken a class from 1st though 8th Grade and is returning from a sabbatical year. Please introduce yourselves as you see her around campus.

This year they will be camping at San Mateo campground, a mile from San Onofre State Beach. The bonding trips have been a great way to reconnect with friends and meet the new students and faculty.
