Winter Festival

The merriment of the winter season beckons us to join together once again in a celebration of song, good food, festivities and friendship. Families and classes across the campus are busy preparing crafts, writing fortunes, baking cakes and learning music to share on Saturday, December 8th from 1 - 5:30.

A few reminders:
It is strongly suggested that you pre-purchase your tickets to avoid lines at the event itself. Tickets will be on sale before school next week on the front lawn.  Tickets are 50 cents each. Each booth requires tickets rather than cash. Admission is free. For booth descriptions Click Here!

This is a special tradition at our school, and carries a festive mood along with it. Everyone is encouraged to dress in holiday attire; choirs and orchestral ensembles are to wear black and white as indicated by their teachers.

It is easy to lose children with so many friends to play with and so much free time. Please keep an eye on the little (and not so little!) ones, and make sure they adhere to all the standards of safety they have come to expect on our campus. Please be particularly mindful that the blacktop and all other parts of campus will be closed at 4:30 when community caroling around the stage begins followed by the advent spiral.

As is tradition, the festival will end quietly at sunset as the 7th grade walks the advent spiral. Please join in the singing of The Little Drummer Boy, and celebrate this beautiful event together as a school community. This is a reverent moment, and requires each individual to encourage the calm and quiet after such a festive day. Please refrain from loud conversation and the use of cell phones and other electronic devices, and collect all students and children around the spiral for this lovely closure to our evening.

As soon as the spiral is over, the 7th grade students will lead everyone to the exits to say goodnight.  Please leave quietly, carrying the mood of the day along with you.

Although cleanup efforts will begin after the spiral, no children are allowed back among the booths. We ask that you arrange care for little ones so that they do not lose the magic of the day.

This year we are happy to be partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank. Please consider bringing personal care items, canned goods and other non-perishable foods to share with those in our surrounding communities who are in need. Bins will be available by the ticket booth and beside the Company of Angels. Each donation you bring makes a tremendous difference. The drive will continue through December 21st, thank you so much for your donations.

Used Clothing Collection for the Detroit Waldorf School

Dear community members,

The Detroit Waldorf School is seriously impacted by the economic situation in the area.  I learned that some of the students do not have access to appropriate clothing. I thought we might be able to ease this situation a bit by sending clothes our children have outgrown, but are still in nice condition.

Please feel free to contact me if you are willing to help. Drop your bag with used clothes at the parking lot entrance of the eurythmy hall or contact me and I will pick up your donation. Do not hesitate to contact me with any further questions.

Fondly,

Elisabeth Beck

Eurythmy teacher

If you have not yet had the chance to make your gift or pledge, here's something fun...

Make your gift or pledge by December 20, 2012 at 4PM to qualify to win $125 deposited into your Choice Lunch account (that's our school's hot lunch program).  $125 is a lot of lunch!  Don't worry if you don't already have an account, they can create one for you.  We have 2 of these to offer, so 2 winners will be drawn.  Everyone who has already given  or pledged will be included in the drawing, with the exception of WSOC employees and their spouses who are not eligible.  We also have to take the Cano Family's name out of the hat because they already won the reserved parking.

To make your gift or pledge today, come into the office for an envelope or go to www.waldorfschool.com/annual

Announcing the

Amazon Logo

 Affiliate Program

Great thanks to everyone who has already supported our new opportunity with Amazon...we earned $350.00 in our first week!

In case you missed this news in the newsletter before Thanksgiving  break, here is the 411.

Exciting news for Amazon shoppers.  Our school is now an affiliate of Amazon.com - which means that any purchases made by entering Amazon's site from the Amazon link on our WSOC website (upper right corner), will result in our school receiving at least 4% of the total purchase value.

If you use Amazon SCRIP you family will receive 4% of the scrip purchase towards your family's annual scrip commitment (which is also earnings for the school) AND the school will receive 4% of your purchase as a donation from Amazon.  That's 8% total earnings for the school generated from shopping you are going to do anyway.  It's a WIN-WIN.

Follow these simple steps

1)  Purchase Amazon Scrip at the WSOC Scrip Store before you purchase to maximize the effects of this great program.

click on the Amazon Icon in the top right corner.  This is the most important part.  You have to enter Amazon.com through the WSOC website for us to get credit.

3)  Shop and check-out as you normally would.

4)  The following month, WSOC receives 4% of your shopping total, as a

donation back to the school from our friends at Amazon.

Note:  The 4% credited back to the school through the affiliate program is not trackable back to your family account for family's scrip commitment (but the 4% from purchasing the SCRIP is).

Scrip Tip of the Week

Making a List and Checking It Twice:
  • We have small denominations for stocking stuffers (Starbucks $5, Barnes & Noble $5 & Target $10)
  • Starbucks $25 gift cards are now at 10%
  • Panera Bread $25 gift cards are now at 11%
  • LL Bean is now at 19%!

Scrip...helping to bridge the gap between the {rich} curriculum students receive here at WSOC & the amount of tuition paid!
