Yup, that's me all dressed up with my pack pup and ready for fun! If you and or your dog plan on donning a Halloween costume, be sure to choose something comfortable and easy to move around in especially for those four-legged ones!  Here are a few more tips to consider when choosing a canine costume:

Watch out for loose or dangling objects such as capes that can be chewed off and swallowed.

Always supervise your dog while in costume.

Be sure that the fit is appropriate. Not too loose where your dog will stumble and get tangled in the fabric and not too tight with pinching elastic bands.

Take care that nothing obscures your dog's vision or breathing passages.

Have fun and be safe and keep reading for more ways to keep your dog safe and calm during Halloween parties and trick-or-treaters. Also, read about our upcoming Halloween Pack Walk this month!

Staying Safe & Calm on Halloween

Children scurrying about as they run from house to house ringing door bells, strange Halloween decorations making booing and shrieking noises, and foreign masks and makeup worn by strange people coming to the house can create quite a bit of anxiety in your dog! Here are a few ways to help your pup stay calm and relaxed:

  • drain your dog's energy with an invigorating walk just prior to expected visitors arrival
  • consider "placing" your dog in the TV room with a family member or friend and select a designated person in charge of answering the door
  • crating your dog in a quiet room with music and a highly-valued chew can help relieve stress or boredom
  • make sure all candy and candles are out of dog's reach
  • always keep emergency vet phone numbers on hand just in case your dog swallows something hazardous - like chocolate!

Have a safe and fun Halloween and enjoy the magnificent colors of the Fall season!
