Hooray! Spring has officially sprung - though, we thought it was never going to happen with all the snow, sleet and ice storms this year!

Since spring is a time of renewal and gratitude for the sweet blessings and beauty that can be found all around us, let us renew our commitment to our precious pets who show us unconditional love all year long.

We can recommit by setting goals each day, week or month to live a healthy lifestyle through regular exercise for both you and your dog!

So get out there with your dogs and enjoy the smells of the earth and the beautiful blooming colors of the season! And also, "Sit quiety, doing nothing, spring comes, and the grass grows by itself." (Zen saying)

In this issue of The Carolina Dog Times, you'll find information about some of my favorite places to take dogs and enjoy the outdoors together in the "Bring Fido" article and there's also an invitation to our May Learn and Burn.

WOOF!
Elaine

Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve - Cary, NC, US Bring your pet with you on-leash for a hike through this beautiful nature preserve with miles fo scenic trails and great views.

Umstead State Park's Company Mill Trail - Raleigh, NC, US Company Mill Trail is a moderately easy, 5.8 mile hike in William B. Umstead State Park that will take about 3 hours to complete with Fido. This hike starts at the same trailhead as the Inspiration ...

Jordan Lake's Ebenezer Church Recreation Area : Ebenezer has two loop trails, each about a mile in length as well as a short trail connecting the picnic areas to the swimming beach. The Ebenezer Church Trail is an easy one-mile loop trail that passes the site of the historic Ebenezer Church for which the area was named. An interpretive display marks the location. Parts of the path follow an abandoned roadbed and traverse a large farm pond. The trailhead is at the southeast corner of the beach parking lot.   Pets must be leashed at all times.

Sarah P. Duke Gardens - Durham, NC, US  Pets are welcome on-leash at these lovely gardens.

American Tobacco Trail - Apex, NC : The ATT is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that is working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors. Previously an unused railroad corridor, this "rail-trail" is now a great place to walk Fido in Apex!

Entropy Boat Rentals - Wilmington, NC: This is a pet friendly boat rental business that allows you to take your pet to a pet friendly beach. Your pet will love to swim, dig, and play at this little-known dog friendly beach

Topsail Beach Off Leash Dog Beach -  A leash is required from mid-may through September. The rest of the year dogs are allowed off-leash with good voice control.
