LEAP is Heading Back to School!

We have lots of kids enrolled in our preK (Nuestra Escuelita) and tutoring program. You can support LEAP by:
  • Becoming a teaching assistant in our preK one regular morning a week.
  • Becoming a tutor (Tuesday and/or Thursday, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
  • Link your shopping card at Kroger and/or Harris Teeter to LEAP and we'll automatically get a % of what you spend. You can link your card at the register using our name (LEAP) or by # (94536 at Kroger or 2840 at Harris Teeter). The stores refresh their lists ever year so you have to re-register every fall.
Both teaching and tutoring programs are located at St. Luke's. No Spanish required! Contact Leigh Bordley (durhamleapcoordinator@gmail.com) or visit the website (www.durhamleap.org).

Episcopal Center at Duke

One of the many ways St. Philip's supports the Episcopal Campus Ministry is to occasionally cook and serve meals after their Sunday worship. Sunday, September 11th, is our first chance this academic year. Services start at 5:00 p.m. with dinner being served at 6:00 p.m.
If you are interested in helping, contact Alec Motten (afmotten@duke.edu) or Mick Capon (verger@stphilipsdurham.org).

Johnson Service Corps Pounding Party

Johnson Service Corps invites you to meet the new Corps Members at our annual Pounding Party! Please join us either at the new JSC house in Durham (915 N. Buchanan Blvd., Durham) on Saturday, September 10th from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m., or come out to the Episcopal Church of the Advocate (8410 Merin Road, Chapel Hill) on Sunday, September 11th, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Pounding parties are a southern tradition, where the community helps new neighbors stock their pantries with a pound of various items (butter, beans, coffee, rice, etc.). We are delighted to announce that Durham Mayor Bill Bell will be joining us for a   ribbon cutting ceremony as a part of the party at the Durham house, and we hope to see you at either event, no matter which city you call home! Please check out the incoming JSC class at www.johnsonservicecorps.org/our-program/current-corps-members/.
