Fall Formation Begins This Sunday
 
 Adult Forum
State Senator Mike Woodard discusses House Bill 2. He'll share information about the legislation and its implications, as well as an update on the legal challenges. Join us this Sunday, August 28th at 10:00 a.m. in the Parish Hall.

August 28th - HB2: State Senator Mike Woodard discusses House Bill 2. He'll share information about the legislation and its implications, as well as an update on the legal challenges.
September 4th - HB2: We'll continue our discussion of HB2 with a presentation by Devin Lentz, LGBT Center of Raleigh.
September 11th - Planning for the Future: join the clergy and members of the strategic planning committee to update you on our current plan and discuss new directions for mission and ministry as we work towards a new strategic plan for 2017 and beyond.  
September 18th - Time and Talent: representatives of our many ministries will share information and provide opportunities for members and visitors to learn and connect at this informal gathering following both the 9:00 and 11:00 services.
September 25th - Bishop Lee: come and meet Bishop Peter Lee, Assisting Bishop for the Diocese of North Carolina. He'll be with us during the formation hour to share news and updates from our diocese and the wider church, and will be preacher and celebrant this day, with confirmations at 11:00.
October 2nd - St. Francis' Day Blessing of the Animals, no formation.

Wednesday Programs Return September 7th in the Parish Hall
 
 Weekly - Bible Workbench: Each session is led by a member of the group using materials from the Bible Workbench program for a broad and inclusive discussion that is always interesting, informative, and often non-traditional. It's great preparation for the coming Sunday and all are welcome. Meets in the Parlor.

Pride Parade Meeting
 
The LGBT committee will meet in the Library Sunday, August 28th, at 12:30 p.m. to plan for St. Philip's participation in Pride Parade on September 24th.

Children and Youth Formation Registration
 
The 2016-2017 Children's and Youth Formation program year is here! Registration is now open for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and Journey to Adulthood. The program year officially starts on Sunday, August 28th. All families will need to submit a registration form, even if you have participated in Children and Youth Formation programs in previous years.
We encourage all families to enroll for formation programs before the Open House on August 28th. You can register online via the St. Philip's website, or by filling out a paper registration from found on the credenza.

Bishop Lee Visits
 
On Sunday, September 25th, Bishop Peter Lee will preach and preside at the 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. services. He will lead the adult forum at 10:00 a.m. There will be confirmations, receptions and             reaffirmations at the 11:00 a.m. service.
 
 
Common Threads
 
Common Threads will be knitting scarves and hats for UMD as well as continuing to make prayer shawls. Please join us in the Parlor each Sunday from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m.  Contact Gail Capon (gail.capon@hotmail.com) for more information.
 
 
 
Holiday Office Hours
 
The Parish offices will be closed Monday, September 5th for the Labor Day holiday.
Normal hours are 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. 
 
Wednesday Night Suppers Return
 
On September 7th, our parish dinners will resume at 6:00 p.m. and continue each Wednesday through May. Our chef, Donnie Cannon, prepares a delicious home-cooked meal with a vegetarian and gluten-free friendly menu. Suggested donations of $7.00 per person or $18.00 per family is appreciated.  
 
Time and Talent Fair
 
Everyone is invited to St. Philip's Time and Talent Fair in the Parish Hall after the 9:00 a.m. and the 11:00 a.m. services on September 18th.
Each ministry will have an information booth where you can talk to a ministry participant and learn how to get involved. A reception will be provided.

It's time for the annual ECW fall flower sale. To order, call or e-mail Pam Denning at 919-477-9677 or pdenning8@aol.com by September 14th. Please do not call orders to the church office.
Pansies: $14 flat/36 plants,                     $8 half-flat/18 plants.

Pick up on Saturday, October 8th, between 9:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. at the garden of St. Philip's Church, 403 E. Main St., Durham.

Servant Leadership 101
 
Johnson Service Corps invites you to join us for Servant Leadership 101 on Friday mornings, September 9th - November 4th, 9:15-11:30 a.m. at The Chapel of the Cross (304 E Franklin St, Chapel Hill). 
This 9-week course weaves together readings, discussion, personal reflection and interactive teachingto help us go deeper on the inward journey of spiritual practice and the outward journey of discerning and following call.
We will dig deep into the Servant Leadership values of Communion, Compassion and Co-Creation through study and practice.
Community members take the course alongside
Johnson Service Corps members to create a diverse and intergenerational learning environment. Sliding scale fee $100-$200, scholarships available. Register by September 2nd at www.johnsonservicecorps.org/servant-leadership-classes/.
