St. Philip's Garden News

St. Philip's is a church for all people, AND all creation. This Spring, native plants attractive to pollinators were planted at St. Philip's. The flower bed between the church and offices has these native plants: bee balm, mountain mint, gay feather, purple coneflower, and black-eyed susan.

In the community garden, we're focusing on plants that support the life cycle of the monarch butterfly: Milkweed, Joe Pye Weed, Liatris, Coreopsis and Wild Quinine.

Let's all celebrate National Pollinator Week - June 20 - 26 by learning more about how we can support pollinators. Check these websites:

AND, join us for some fun time taking care of these plants on Saturday, June 18 from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.
Keep an eye out for these Monarch caterpillars on the milkweed in the community garden. Milkweed is the only plant Monarch caterpillars feed on.

Diocesan Delegate Opportunities

Every year, delegates from every parish in the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina meet to conduct business at the Diocesan Convention. Highlights of the convention are sermons and speeches by the bishop and other   keynotes speakers, food, worship, and fellowship opportunities, and discussions and voting on a wide range of resolutions.
St. Philip's is allowed five delegates. Each serve for a three-year term. We have two vacancies for delegates to be filled for 2016-2018 and two vacancies for alternates. If you have an interest in being considered by the Vestry for this opportunity, please let Sue Guptill, Senior Warden, know (sguptill@mindspring.com). The Vestry will vote for delegates from among those interested at the June meeting.
