Yellowstone National Park's July Visitation Highest on Record.

Yellowstone National Park had the highest recreational visitation on record in July with 980,702 visits for the month-a 14 percent increase over last July and a 2 percent increase over the previous July record in 2010.

For the first seven months of 2015, record breaking recreational visits totaling 2,279,557 are up 17 percent over last year and 13 percent over the previous record year in 2010.

Each of the park's five entrances showed increased visits for the month of July, with the North and West entrances both continuing to record the largest increases over July of last year.

Visitation statistics are calculated by taking the actual number of wheeled vehicles entering the park gates, and using a person-per-vehicle multiplier to calculate the number of monthly recreational visitors.

July is typically the park's peak visitation month, followed in order by August, June, September, and May.

Detailed park visitation information and additional information on how these statistics are calculated is available online at https://irma.nps.gov/Stats/Reports/Park.

Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area End of the Season Campfire Talks and Full Moon Party

Bighorn Canyon NRA has campfire talks coming up in late August and early September 2015. The prehistoric people who once lived around Bighorn Canyon had to be creative in order to survive their harsh environment. One of the weapons they made to hunt with was known as the atlatl (spear thrower). Join Ranger Shawn Williams on August 28th to learn about the atlatl, and how it was used. You can try it for yourself if you wish! Two hundred years ago, the mountain men used the Bad Pass Trail that meanders around Bighorn Canyon while they were trapping in the West. Join Ranger Williams on September 4th to learn about the mountain men who traversed the Bighorn Country, and the mountain man era. Ranger Williams will also discuss, and fire, a Hawken Rifle, which is often associated with the mountain men. We hope to see you in the park!

The campfire talks will be held at the Horseshoe Bend Campground Amphitheater at 8 PM weather permitting.

For the final weekend of the season, August 28 and 29, Hidden Treasure Charters is hosting one more Full Moon Party at Horseshoe Bend Marina. There will be a free concert, food served until late and beer available to purchase both nights. Come join the fun and celebrate the end of summer.

For more information about campground programs, call the Bighorn Canyon Visitor Center at 307-548-5406. For more information about the Full Moon Parties contact Mark Garrison at the Horseshoe Bend Marina at 307-548-7230.
