Exec Bits

It has been just over one month since I first entered the chamber's doors as its interim executive director. It goes without saying, that it has been a busy month. During my short tenure, I have attended nearly a dozen meetings, spent two days working the front desk of the visitor center, assisted with the craft fair, attended my first Live After 5 event at the Ivy on 8th Street and participated in my first ribbon cutting ceremony with Mountain Spirit Habitat for Humanity. During all of this, I have been greeted and welcomed with much enthusiasm and for that I am extremely grateful. So, thank you to all I have met and I look forward to meeting more of you in the coming days.

We continue to hear the good news regarding recreational visits to Yellowstone National Park. Reports indicate visits were up nearly 24% in May and nearly 17% in June over 2014 numbers. We hope this translates into increasing business in our community. We hear on a regular basis how much our visitors enjoy our area and the friendliness of the people of Wyoming. This reflects well on our business community.

Events coordinator Tia Mitchell did an outstanding job with the popular Wild West Extravaganza Art and Craft Fair. Over 70 vendors participated this year and attendance was brisk. We consider this year's event to be a huge success and one that we want to grow in the future. A big "thank you" to the City of Cody and the Cody Police Department for their contribution to the success of this event.

Upcoming events include the Color Dash, Saturday, August 8th at Beck Lake Park. To register visit www.cd5k.com. Rendezvous Royale week (Sept. 21-26, 2015) will be here before we know it. A new event this year is the musical extravaganza Jam Royale with Wylie and the Wild West band. Wylie and his band are a favorite with many folks in Cody and is a great country-swing dance band. Early bird tickets (prior to September 11) are now available for $30 through the chamber office and $35 thereafter. Tables are available for $325 which includes eight tickets.

Lastly, we are always looking for helpful and engaged volunteers to serve on our committees and assist at events. We also offer event sponsorships that can help promote your business. Each one of our events requires significant planning and financial support and your help is certainly appreciated.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,
 Dennie Hammer
Interim Executive Director
