Cody Chamber E-Newsletter  -  June 6, 2014

Exec Bits:

Like you, we're very glad to see summer here. Early season traffic in the Visitor Center has been very strong and we're excited to be helping so many travelers.

While our visitor services are in full swing, our other efforts continue as well.

We have been very busy with events, especially coming off a very successful 2nd Annual Spring into Yellowstone, Birding and Wildlife Festival, which was held May 14-18.

We had more attendees, more tours and we really see a lot of momentum for this early season event. We're looking forward to working with our partners on making the 2015 event even bigger.

Traditionally we don't produce any events during the summer, but this year we are assisting with the Cody Craft Fair that takes place in the City Park during Cody Stampede. We were approached by the organizers last month and have agreed to help them on a one-year basis to ensure this event goes ahead as planned.

After this year, our board and staff will make a full evaluation of it, and our level of involvement. The event certainly attracts a lot of traffic, but I understand the sensitivity of the Chamber producing an event that caters mainly to non-Chamber members.

If we continue our involvement in this longstanding event in the future, we'll certainly have a discounted option for members to participate and will look for opportunities to partner with charities or civic organizations to share the proceeds.

And, while summer is just starting, our fall events - the Buffalo Bill Art Show and Sale and Cody High Style - are right around the corner. The Art Show kicks off in just over two weeks in the Buffalo Bill Center of the West and plans are coming along for the Western Fashion Show and the High Style Furniture Exhibition.

The furniture artisans will display their amazing works in the Cody Auditorium again, starting September 18, while the Fashion Shows will be held in the Art Show tent on the Center of the West's property on Wednesday, Sept 17. Tickets are now available.

I'm pleased to feature Cowtown Candy Company in this installment of our Business Spotlight Videos. Please click the graphic link below and let me know if you're interested in being featured.

Finally, election season has kicked into high gear and our government affairs committee has just started the plans to hopefully hold a "meet the candidates" type event in July. More details will be shared as this is organized.

Thank you very much for being a member of the Cody Chamber. We've recently passed the 600 member threshold (a level of support we haven't enjoyed for many years), and it's due to the confidence you place in us. We'll keep working hard to drive business in Cody, and we sincerely appreciate your continued support.

Thanks!
