Give a warm welcome to our new Chamber Board President!
I am excited and honored to serve as the President of the Chamber of Commerce's Board of Directors for 2013. I believe that Scott, the Chamber staff and the various Chamber committees have, and will continue to do a great job for us. They are great ambassadors and champions of the Cody community.
A little over 5 years ago I moved here with my wife Karen and our 5 month old son Emmett. We have since added a daughter Jolene, our little "local", and my mother-in-law Joyce has moved to the area. We came to a new town for a new job with a new company and didn't know a single person. The Cody community, both business & personal, welcomed us and really helped make this our home. We haven't looked back since. The initial plan was to stay here for at least 5 years. That plan changed to 35 years in a hurry. Like many of you, we love this area. Barring any unforeseen major changes in our lives, we will continue to live in and love this area as we raise our kids.
I relish this opportunity to, in some small way, give back to the community that has been so great for my family. I strongly encourage anyone and everyone to get involved and make this wonderful community even better. We all have something to add. I would suggest that we find what we are passionate about and get involved. There are plenty of civic organizations, athletic & recreational programs, children's programs, various boards, etc.... there are plenty of ways to help. In the end it is incredibly rewarding.
It is my pleasure to work with a very good, dedicated and diverse board of directors and staff. At the risk of jinxing anything, they will make my job easy. I look forward to a fun year, thanks for the opportunity.

Member to Member discounts...we need your offers!
As you renew your memberships this year, along with your plaque postcard, you will also be receiving one or two plastic, credit card sized discount cards. These cards will be valid for the year and are good for all sorts of discounts to your fellow Cody Country Chamber Member merchants.
(Front of the official discount card.)
But, we need hear from our membership businesses about what sort of specials they would like to offer their fellow Chamber members! For example, if you own a restaurant you could offer a free drink or appetizer to cardholders. If you own a retail store you could offer "buy one get one free" on an item of some sort. Or depending on your business you could offer a percentage off of a purchase or a service you provide.
Your "Member to Member" discount can be whatever you are comfortable with. Please know this is strictly voluntary per each business, some will participate and some will not! You can also change your offer whenever you want, so you could have one offer for 6 months and then change it for the rest of the year.
We have a page set up on our website that will list the current offers. If you wish to participate with a discount offer, please email Liz Stuard at admin@codychamber.org today with your details. Once we have offers on hand, they will be posted on this link on our website.

An opportunity to expand small business sales.
Knowing where to turn for information, resources, and tools while starting and maintaining a business can be overwhelming. You have researched, studied, invested... but what now?
Government contracting is an innovative way to get your business off the ground or to simply expand your business' sales opportunities. Whether you're new to the field or a seasoned veteran, mark your calendars for the 2013 Government Resources and Opportunities for Business (GRO-Biz) Conference and Idea Expo, held in Cody at the Holiday Inn from February 19-21.
The GRO-Biz conference is a great way to learn how to market and sell your services and products in a multi-billion dollar federal government market. You will have the opportunity to attend workshops and network with more than 50 federal and state government agency representatives. As government budgets are set to experience cuts, agencies are looking for ways to save money. Wyoming businesses have a history of doing more with less so this conference may just be for you if you are looking to expand into government contracting.
Meeting one-on-one with government representatives will allow you to learn about what kind of services and products they are looking for, as well as any special requirements necessary to fulfill a contract. Representatives from the Defense Supply Center, Department of Homeland Security, Veteran's Administration, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are just a few of those who regularly attend this conference. More than 150 businesses annually attend the GRO-Biz Conference and Idea Expo, and past conferences have led to a number of successful business partnerships.
If you are interested in learning more about the GRO-Biz conference, please call 866-253-3300 or email ptac@uwyo.edu. You can also register at www.regonline.com/2013grobizidea, simply click on the "Register Now" button and follow the instructions. I look forward to seeing you there!
