Looking for a fun weekend trip or holiday getaway? The WINE Tour may be the answer and it's always the right size.  Seven wineries in the Northeast of Indiana open for you to come in and taste a wide variety and style of wine.

Before heading out, be sure to check the wineries' hours as some may have switched over to Winter hours.

Pressure

    Crush:

  •  to press or squeeze (something) so hard that it breaks or loses its shape
  •  to break (something) into a powder or very small pieces by pressing, pounding, or grinding it
  •  to defeat (a person or group that opposes you) by using a lot of force
(definition by Merriam-Webster)

This time of year is filled with activity, both planned and unplanned, a rodeo ride that you know is coming but that you can never completely prepare for, though you do your best. Winery's are clearing tanks by bottling in advance of grapes that will be destemmed and gently split, starting the chemical process that will produce new wines after fermentation and pressing.
You can call it Harvest, or you can call it Crush, and the effects are not just limited to the physical, as many is the chance you wish for a few more hours to complete a necessary task ( cough cough, this newsletter ) in a timely fashion, before moving on to the next one. This year started fast, and kept that pace and now it is (largely) done. The above definition has true aspects for winery's, in all facets, physical and mental challenges that unavoidable, but make what we do so rewarding. 2015 will be in the books soon, and 2016 is warming up to take the stage, but the 2015 vintages will be in the tanks, in bottles, and in wine glasses long after the calendar is replaced, a tasty reminder of times gone by.

#SatekRoadShow rolls on

We have a number of tasting and events going on in the month of October, carrying our banner as far and wide as we are able, and will be tagging ourselves on Twitter as we do, and invite you to do the same if you see us out and about. The Satek Winery bandwagon has plenty of room, and we've saved you a seat.

What's old is Nou

It's coming again, the 3rd Thursday of November, and that means the release of our Nouveau wine! Satek Winery has been joining in the Worldwide Release of the first vintage of the calendar year (northern hemisphere, but you knew that) with our carbonic macerated Marechal Foch, a celebratory wine that was grapes on the vine a scant few weeks ago. It takes talent, experience and diligence to turn this trick, but we have and we do, and you can taste the results. Nouveau wines are a commemoration of the harvest year, a wine to hunker down with as the snows start massing, in time for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's. We don't make much, but what we make is a true happening. Ask to try it, if you find yourself in our tasting room late next month.

 The expanding footprint

Satek wines are available in more and more locations, throughout the state of Indiana. Monarch Distribution and Vine 2 Wine have been working hard to carve out a spot in the marketplace, and if there is a store or business that isn't carrying Satek wine, they probably could, if requested. It is humbling and gratifying to see wines from Fremont in places far and wide, and we aren't stopping now.

Wine Shipping Update

As of July 1, 2015, the wine shipping laws for the state of Indiana have changed, and wine shipping has becoming easier to do. We still need a valid state ID (Driver's License, most often) but you no longer need to come in to our winery and fill out the Direct Purchaser Verification; instead, you can now fax, email, mail, or even stop in to get us a copy of your ID. This is a good change as far as we at Satek Winery are concerned, and though there is still a 3-bottle minimum, and someone 21 years old or older does still have to sign for the package (FedEx won't drop it off and go), this allows people who did not sign up while in our tasting room or at an event, or even people who have never been up to Steuben County but enjoy our wine, to have it shipped to them, no matter where they are in the state. Many are the times we were unable to ship in the past because of the above reasons, but we hope that this change in law will make wine shipping and the responsible enjoyment of Satek wine a consideration for anyone so inclined.

... was last seen wandering in a vineyard, conversing with grape vines, but we are confident he will ok by pruning time next year (after a glass of wine).
