Numbers Game

   Splendor in the grass. This is a notable month for us, on at least two fronts: Satek Winery opened in June of 2001 and will celebrate 14 years of operation, starting "officially" Friday June 26th (and running until Sunday July 5th, with our traditional- buy two bottles of wine, get a free, limited edition wine glass) but there is a significant and much less visible as well. The great-grandfather of Pamela Satek (née Kreibaum, like the Bay) purchased the 28 acres on the third basin of Lake James 100 years ago, the land that would become our first vineyard 79 years later. Anniversaries can be funny things (unless you forget them), and why a 14th anniversary might be seen as more important than a 13th or 9th can be debated, even a cynic would likely have to admit that the triple digits of 100 is substantial. The State of Indiana will celebrating a Bicentennial next year, so the numbers are out there, and while compiling them might be work, the rewards will make you glad you digit.
