Bridge reopened on Highway 120
After a long six months of construction, the bridge over 120 (that runs from the Outlet Mall, over I-69 and into Fremont) has finally reopened to traffic. We, along with many other Fremont businesses, are thrilled that our visitors will now be able to get to us as they've been accustomed to, especially those coming from Pokagon State Park or Prime Outlet Mall. |

Greetings!
Our newest vin creation is worth celebrating. In fact, celebration is really the essence of this style of wine.
A nouveau is traditionally a red wine which is released in the same year in which it was harvested, and is typically light-bodied and paler in color due to the very short full-berry fermentation. The most well-known nouveau wine is Beaujolais Nouveau, which is released on the third Thursday of November, often only a few weeks after the grapes were harvested. Huge festivities throughout France herald the release of the Nouveau, thus perpetuating the correlation between the wine style and celebration.
Kreibaum Bay Nouveau-- our own nouveau-style wine-- was made from Marechal Foch grapes, harvested from our Lake James vineyard. Nouveau wines are characteristically fruity and have light tannins--and ours is no exception. They are at their peak drinkability within the first month, and are traditionally best served slightly cool. In keeping with tradition, we will release Kreibaum Bay Nouveau on Thursday, November 17. Only about 15 cases were made this year, and at just $11.17 a bottle, its expected to sell out quickly. Consider picking up some Nouveau for your holiday celebrations!
Sláinte!

The Second App Kickoff
If waiting increases anticipation, how has six months (and change) suited you? What, you might ask, am I talking about? Why, only the reemergence of our winter (in lieu of fall) phenomenon, Autumn Classic. An apple wine that, due to label approval snags, debuted on January 4th and had disappeared from sight and tasting sheets by April 4th (or 90 days), Autumn Classic was an initial foray, and as which such things, had no certainty regarding its reception from the wine drinking public. Shane, our majordomo of fermentation, spent long hours researching on his own and with Larry Satek, as tackling this project would be like comparing apples to grapes (whole 'nother kettle of fish). After securing a fruit source (G.W. Stroh orchard in Angola) and determining what stylistically, and how chemically, it would come into being, then arranging logistically how the fresh pressed apple juice would be transported back to the winery with a minimum of exposure to air, Shane then got up in the wee hours of morning, in winter, to join Gary Stroh in the process of the open air pressing to hedge against spoilage. And he hoped for the best.
The results, it seems, bear him out. Around 120 cases sold in 90 days, and people, far after it was gone, came in search of it. In August, the INDY International Wine Competition bestowed a silver medal on Autumn Classic, not too shabby for a first effort. Which brings me back to the start.
In an attempt to better meet demand, we are hoping to greatly improve on the original output, though final cases numbers will be tough to peg until the actual bottling (but trust me, >120 is not a bad bet). Additionally, this year's version will have a bigger "box of crayons" to color with. To wit, the original AC had base apples (Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, and Gala) whereas this "vintage" will add five more (McIntosh, Honey Crisp, Golden Grimes, Jonathon, and Idared) to the original alumni (Much of the apple wine literature praises the inclusion of many types of malum, in the name of complexity. Can't wait to find out).
We don't have a set release date yet for Autumn Classic (and won't, until it's bottled) but it won't have to be autumn in the ironic, post-New Year's sense this year. We have the labels already printed and on site. When it's ready, it'll be ready. Are you ready?

Mixology Remix:
more than just Mango Mania
Our mixed-drink recipes using our Mango Mania wine have been so popular among our customers, we decided that we couldn't leave our über-popular Raspberry and Blackberry wines out of the fun. Several staffers selflessly took it upon themselves to have a mixology party, with a quest to create equally good recipes for the berry wines. The resulting concoctions were printed up on recipe cards available for free in our tasting room. In case you can't make it in soon, I'll spot you one recipe that's my personal favorite ...
Chocolate Raspberry Martini
Ingredients:
- 1 part Satek Raspberry wine
- 1 part white Crème de Cacao
- 1 part vodka
Directions: Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake and strain into a martini glass drizzled with our Zinfandel chocolate sauce. Enjoy! |
'Tis the season for mulled wines
Counter the chilly November air with warm spiced wine, sure to be a hit at your holiday gatherings (or any day, for that matter!). Here's how: warm one bottle of Marechal Foch wine with 7/8 cup of sugar and one packet of mulling spices in a crock pot on low. Stir frequently until the sugar is dissolved. Use a ladel and let your guests serve themselves right out of the crock pot. We'll be sampling this mulled wine all season long on weekends here in our tasting room, so stop by and experience this yummy cold-weather beverage for yourself! |
