Our much-anticipated semi-annual Art Show is almost upon us!  On Saturday, June 18th, the lower lawn promenade of Satek Winery will be transformed into an outdoor art show and sale, featuring the works of some of the most talented artists in the region.  This free and family-friendly event is one of our most popular of the summer.  This year we will have food available from Mr. Bratz.  Of course, the tasting room will be open for complimentary wine tasting, and we've got the tents and picnic tables up for our guests to make the most of our beautiful setting and (hopefully) perfect weather.  Click the link below for more details.

Quote of the Month

2 wine glasses with Foch

"Wine is one of the most civilized things in the world and one of the most natural things of the world that has been brought to the greatest perfection, and it offers a greater range for enjoyment and appreciation than, possibly, any other purely sensory thing."

-Ernest Hemingway,

"Death in the Afternoon"

"There are no standards of taste in wine... Each man's own taste is the standard, and a majority vote cannot decide for him or in any slightest degree affect the supremacy of his own standard."

- Mark Twain

I think this quote sums up what we at Satek Winery try to convey to our patrons in our tasting room every day. We believe that no one should tell you which wines you should like, or even which wines you shouldn't like. Our goal, in guiding you through your wine tasting, is to help you find wines that YOU like. Our tasting room staff is often asked by our customers, "What wine is your favorite?" Funny thing is, each one of us is likely to give you a different answer. Our tastes in wines are as diverse as our wine portfolio, which in the past year has grown to 34 different wines!

wines on dockIdentifying your personal tastes in wine is actually somewhat challenging. I see people getting caught up in one varietal (e.g. "I like Merlot"), instead of identifying the characteristics of wines that appeal to them. There are so many different kinds of wine out there, and it can seem daunting. Wineries are one of the best places to experience that variety, with a trained tasting guide to help you along the way.

We have taken this idea a step further and developed a class called "Wine 101: Terminology, Technique, and Taste." In this fun one-hour sit-down course, our "students" are taught basic wine terminology, proper wine drinking and tasting technique, and led in a sampling of a large range of wines to help them discover and put a name to the particular characteristics of wines they like. We challenge them: Do you know what you like, or do you like what you know? We help them expand their wine knowledge while helping them learn their own tastes in wine.  We are offering this class all summer long on Thursday nights from 6-7:30 p.m. for a fee of $20 per person.  A limited number of spots are available in each class, with the first class being offered tomorrow night, June 2nd.  You can call the winery for more information or to register for Wine 101.
