Brain Finding
Brain Facts

All of us
have come across educational practices or products that claim their effectiveness is based on brain research. Unfortunately, these claims are based on neuromyths - misconceptions about the brain and learning.

A neuromyth usually starts out with a misunderstanding, a misreading and, in some cases, a deliberate warping of the scientifically established facts to make a relevant case for education or for other purposes.

Learning Tip

The existence of so-called learning styles is one of the most pervasive neuromyths. This myth suggests that different students have different ways of learning, and they learn best when information is presented in their preferred learning style - visual, auditory or kinesthetic (hands-on). Although it is true that learners are different from each other, it is attributable to their varying abilities, interests and  background knowledge, not the way in which they initially perceive information. Auditory, visual and kinesthetic may be channels through which a person can learn, but they are not learning styles.
