Yesterday, the RAND Corporation released a study showing that Eureka Math, though only three years old, is now the most widely used math curriculum in the United States. This rapid embrace speaks volumes about how teachers respond to content-rich materials that drive them to accomplish big things. I get so excited when I think about what this will mean for students and for our nation.

Of 1,168 teachers responding to a nationwide survey by the RAND Corporation, 57% of elementary school and 47% of secondary teachers said they use either Eureka Math or the version of the curriculum our teacher-writers developed for EngageNY.org. This surpasses the use of any other curricula, particularly at the elementary level where the next most popular curriculum is used by just 32% of teachers.

"The teachers who wrote Eureka Math are overjoyed that their peers nationwide have embraced this work. This is truly a grassroots movement," said Great Minds President Lynne Munson. "This curriculum makes everyone work harder and rewards that work with extraordinary student success. Knowing math deeply will open vistas of opportunity previously unavailable to so many students."

"I've never experienced anything so powerful in education," said Kelley Boynton, executive director for elementary education of Bethel Public Schools in Washington state. "The curriculum has given our teachers the tools to help all children perform at amazing levels. Our students can now solve unbelievably complex problems and share their thinking with pride and enthusiasm. The Eureka experience has boosted teacher confidence and ignited a district-wide sense of pride. We have been changed forever!"

The RAND study follows an expert review of math curricula by EdReports.org, an independent non-profit that reviews curricula, that gave Eureka Math the highest ratings in all categories (focus/coherence, rigor, and usability in the classroom). EdReports.org found that the curriculum was well aligned with new, more rigorous learning standards. That's in contrast to most of the other math curricula the nonprofit reviewed. Although schools are generally in their first or second year using Eureka Math, many are already seeing improvements on nationally recognized tests. Read about those successes here.
