Yuma: Eureka Made the Difference
Eight of the 12 elementary schools in Yuma (AZ) Elementary School District One performed above average on the new state mathematics test. Duane Sheppard, Associate Superintendent for the district and Eureka Champion, talks about how Eureka Math played a big part in the district's success in a new Q&A. "We knew we had to do something ever since the Common Core State Standards, because all of our math series were no longer aligned," Sheppard says. It took parents and teachers a little while to get used to the new curriculum. But, Sheppard added, "Two months in, the light bulbs started to go on. Teachers were better understanding the content themselves. And they were seeing their students thrive." And as students' test scores proved, that learning is translating into real results.

Teacher Collaboration Vital in New Landscape
"Collaboration," writes Great Minds' Program Manager of Implementation Support Catriona Anderson in a new blog post, "can greatly improve teaching and learning. But all too often, teachers have worked in silos, missing critical opportunities to exchange ideas and learn from one another." New educational standards also are calling for students to engage in collaborative discussions, a skill Anderson notes, "they'll need in college and the workforce." Luckily, teachers all over America are also working together more. As Anderson shows us, Eureka Math users from Brooklyn to Washington State to Delaware to Louisiana are finding new ways to work together to improve their math knowledge and their teaching skills.
