The disappearance of the textbook.
The digital news outlet Quartz partnered with The Hechinger Report to produce a lengthy article on the rise of digitally delivered curricula and their quality. Rachel Monahan's article prominently features Eureka Math as a standout in this space.
A deep dive on Eureka Math.
The Center for Digital Education explores Eureka Math and its approach to math using real-world problems embedded throughout lessons. An example problem presented by Eureka Math lead writer and mathematician, Scott Baldridge, is calculating the moon's distance from the earth. "Presented with the moon question, Eureka students would use modeling or mathematical pictures -- Eureka uses a short list of such flexible models throughout its 14 grades -- to bridge the gap between the word problem and the abstract operations needed for the right answer." Read an FAQ that indicates the types of models used in the Eureka Math curriculum.
Lessons from the field.
Here's another update from our fall listening tour report of Eureka Math districts.
What we heard: Teachers told us that student knowledge of and attitudes toward math were dramatically improved under Eureka Math, but that the transition to this new approach is sometimes challenging. What we're doing: We are constantly working to improve the teacher and student experience with Eureka Math. To help with the transition to Eureka, we are building tools for identifying and bridging gaps in students' pre-requisite understanding and skills, reducing the density of some lessons, and organizing the fluency resources in a way that empowers teachers to more responsively meet classroom needs.

NCTM Update
Join us next week in Boston when more than two dozen Eureka writers and staff from across the country converge at our booth at NCTM. Our team will be sharing their expertise, teaching demonstration lessons, and presenting on various topics for teachers of PK through high school. Find our schedule of presentations and lesson demonstrations on our blog.
