Good news for Lafayette, Louisiana. Lafayette Parish schools, a Eureka Math adopter, received positive news coverage this week for helping students make significant math gains. Assistant Superintendent Sandra Billeaudeau had this to say about the new math: "It's an in-depth approach. Instead of learning things at surface level, it's a deeper understanding." Read more here.
Lessons from the field. Members of the Great Minds leadership team recently conducted a four-state listening tour of districts using Eureka Math. More than 200 teachers, administrators, and parents shared their experiences using Eureka.
What we heard: One of the key things educators told us is that Eureka Math is improving teaching and learning, but early implementation is a challenge. What we're doing: The Eureka Math team is creating a guide on what to do and how to do it in the first years to ensure a smooth, dynamic and successful implementation. We'll share more of what we learned over the next few weeks.
A curriculum specialist on Eureka Math. " At first, I think the teachers were kind of like, 'Why are we doing this?' Now that they see what is coming with the PARCC exam, [teachers are] like, 'Oh I see why we're doing that,'" said Meredith Rhoads, curriculum specialist for elementary schools in Rapides Parish, Louisiana.
