Welcome to Eureka!, our informal weekly run-down of triumphs and travails from the ongoing effort to help all American math students say, "I got it!"

Best,

Lynne Munson

Tennessee endorsement. Eureka Math was the only curriculum recently approved for ALL grades by the Tennessee Department of Education. That's our third major state-level endorsement, joining Louisiana and New York. The Eureka team looks forward to collaborating with educators from the Volunteer State.

Major Ed Week piece on parent math days. Lynne Munson and our friends from Lafayette Parish, Louisiana, and Upper Dublin, Pennsylvania, are featured in this major profile, showing how educators are successfully helping parents master Eureka Math and related Common Core material. According to one parent night attendee, "The benefit is breaking the numbers down----instead of using the shortcuts and tricks we used----and seeing the bigger picture. I'll walk out of here with a different opinion, surely." Read it here.

Making the case in Lousiana. A new report from the prestigious Cain Center at LSU (co-directed by our Nell McAnelly) makes the case for stronger math instruction. A story in the Monroe News Star on the report features a strong shout-out for Eureka Math from Lafayette's Penny Gennuso, who's also president of the Louisiana Council of Supervisors of Mathematics. "We've seen some data on schools that implemented it well last year, and they have increased scores in several grade levels."

Students teach! Check out how 2nd graders in Lafayette Parish, Louisiana, are teaching their parents to "decompose numbers" and other Eureka Math skills. An inspired approach to parent nights. News clip here

Piqua (Ohio) understands. "It really focuses on the understanding of numbers. When you start getting more complex problems and you don't understand it, the memorization will fail you because now you don't have anything to go on when that becomes a big number." That's David Shellhaas, curriculum director for math and science at Piqua City Schools, explaining why they're using Eureka Math. News clip here
