Dear ARZA Canada Members
As I am sure you are aware, Israel will be conducting national elections in March. One of the candidates for the Labor Party is Rabbi Gilad Kariv, Executive Director of the Israel Reform Movement.
The Movement itself does not take political stands but Rabbi Kariv has taken a leave of absence to see if he can bring the ideas and principles of the Reform Movement into the Knesset.
Please take a look at this article from the Jerusalem Post about his candidacy.
Next Wednesday The Labor Party will be conducting primaries to determine positions on the Labor list of candidates. We will be looking closely to see what position on the list Rabbi Kariv will achieve. The higher the slot the more likely he is to get a seat in the Knesset.

The Israel We Should Be Talking About
|
|
This article starts by describing the efforts of Israel's new President, Reuven Rivlin, to counter anti-Arab incitement in Israel. It continues with the opinions of several prominent Israelis on one of the key questions of the current election campaign - whether the two-state solution is still possible or desirable.
The One-State Reality
Moshe Halbertal, a leading expert on military ethics, explains how to assess Israel's operation in Gaza from an ethical perspective. And on the question of two states, he says there's "no other option."
After the Gaza war, it seems to one Israeli that the expected concessions from a peace agreement are more of an existential threat than war.
