A View from Israel. With special guest Rabbi Miri Gold
After a long struggle starting in 2005, Reform Rabbi Miri Gold's salary is, as of January, paid by the Israeli government; she is the first non-orthodox rabbi to attain this status.
Born in Detroit, she made aliyah in 1977. Gold attended HUC- JIR in Jerusalem and was ordained in 1999. She is rabbi at Kehilat Birkat Shalom at Kibbutz Gezer (located near Rehovot).
According to Amanda Borschel-Dan, Times of Israel's Jewish World editor, Gold has served as the poster child of a Diaspora- wide campaign for pluralism in Israel.
Her struggle has garnered support from Jews across the denominations.
