Camp George
ARZA Canada brings the Israel Friendship Caravan toCamp George!

Rabbi Noam Katz wrote:  Thank you for generously sponsoring the wonderful visit from the Tzofim Friendship Caravan to Camp George this past Saturday.  The Tzofim inspired our campers and staff alike, creating a celebratory atmosphere filled with ruach and the sights, sounds and songs of contemporary Israel.  Just as importantly, they
spent valuable time interacting with our campers on Shabbat afternoon,
teaching about Israel through trivia, games and activities.

Maccabiah Games 2013 - Jewish Sports Connects

Israeli and Diaspora Jewry

By Mark Anshan

There are many doors through which Jews living in the diaspora can and do engage with the land of Israel and our Israeli brethren. The Maccabiah Games provides a unique platform for Jews - young and old - to come together and spend an intensive two weeks fulfilling the dream of representing their country and participating in highly competitive sports for which they have been training for months (if not years). At the same time, it brings many more thousands of supporters (family and friends) to Israel who, in turn, have the opportunity to meet others from many countries and share the wonderful experience of watching their children, grandchildren and spouses compete and come together in supporting Israel. Through this event, connections are made and the bonds with Israel are strengthened.

Rabbi Gilad Kariv Ynet Op-Ed: Let's Not Lose Diaspora Jewry

In Rabbi Kariv's Ynet Op-Ed, he says "The State of Israel continues to turn a cold shoulder to the Diaspora communities and to millions of Jews around the world, despite their enormous contribution. It's time for a rethink." An English translation of this article is available for you here...

New Poll Shows Movement On The Rise!

This past month, the Israel Democracy Institute published new statistics on the Reform and Conservative streams of Judaism in Israel. This new poll only goes to prove what the IMPJ has been witnessing in the field, all over the country, day after day. The movements for Reform and Conservative Judaism are firmly placed on the Jewish identity map of Israel, and it shows its citizens are embracing our belief that there isn't only one way to be a Jew.

The Rosewell Seminar for Social Justice

In cooperation with the Israel Religious Action Center of the Israel Movement for Progressive Judaism
January 2 - 9, 2014
The Seminar
The Social Justice Seminar is an intensive 10-day program run in cooperation with the Israel Religious Action Center of the Israel Movement for Progressive Judaism in which participants explore issues of religion and state in Israel, as well as socioeconomic issues, and engage in social action projects.
The seminar delves into the basis of the Jewish concern for a just society, then goes out into the streets of Jerusalem and Israel to turn that vision into a reality. Seminar participants will wrestle with the issues of religion and state, and debate what it means to be a Jewish country and a democracy at the same time. They will learn about the often hidden plight of the poor, the hungry and the homeless, going beyond the statistics to encounter the real people involved.
The seminar will offer creative ways to make a continuing difference while in Israel and back at home. Participants will meet and work together on social action projects with the staff and volunteers of the Israel Religious Action Center and other social service organizations.

Price: $500 (Including hotel, program and most meals. Not including airfare. Limited financial assistance available)

   A Word of Hebrew

What a coincidence!

If you're out and about this summer, and you run into someone you know when you least expect it, you can say:    Eizeh tzeruf mikrim (איזה צרוף מקרים) - what a coincidence!

or, the popular:    Eizeh keta (איזה קטע) - how unexpected!
