Supreme Court Keeps Guns Away from Domestic Violence Abusers
"Victims of domestic violence and their advocates are breathing easier, since the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that convicted domestic violence abusers will be prohibited from possessing firearms," said Kim Gandy, President and CEO of the National Network to End Domestic Violence, after the significant decision in U.S. v. NCDSV This Month

The National Center is a training partner in this month's 2014 Vet Court Conference, May 28-31 in Anaheim, CA. This is Justice for Vet's second conference dedicated exclusively to Veterans Treatment Courts.  Registration is still open!

On May 19-21, teams (selected earlier this year) from  all over Texas will convene in Austin for Full Court Press 2.0: Providing Training & Responses to Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and  Stalking.  This is the third year the National Center has partnered with The University of Texas at Austin's School of Social Work, Center for Social Work Research, Institute on Domestic Violence & Sexual Violence and School of Law to present the conference, which is funded by the Governor's Office, Criminal Justice Division.  
 
NEW REPORTS: DoD rape in the military and the White House sexual assault on campus  


Rape in the Military

Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Defense released the  FY 2013 Annual Report of Sexual Assault in the Military. According to the report there was a 50% increase in the number of reports of sexual assaults in the military last year, but there hasn't been an increase in the number of sexual assaults.  In addition to the Annual Report, DoD also released a several sexual assault prevention initiatives.

 NOT ALONE

  Late last month, the White House release, NOT ALONE ~ The First Report of the White House Task Force to Protect Students from Sexual Assault. In addition to the report, this link includes a collection of news releases, a fact sheet, a memorandum, a podcast and articles related to it.  With the release of the report, the new NOT ALONE website was also launched.
