Kicking off the 2013 Girl Scout Cookie Program

Just FOUR days to go!

 

The much anticipated 2013 Girl Scout Cookie Sale starts on Saturday, February 2.  Are you ready to help girls earn funds for Girl Scouting and learn valuable business skills?

 

Cookie Checklist for Volunteers:

  1. Plan to attend a Cookie Kickoff Event (click here for list of events)
  2. Parent Permission Forms signed
  3. Cookies sorted and ready to distribute to the girls
  4. Talk to girls about safety when selling
  5. Recruited volunteers to help pick-up more cookies at the Cookie Cupboard 
  6. Signed up girls and parents to work at Cookie Booths
  7. Created weekly schedule for girls/parents to pick up more cookies and turn in money
  8. Share your local story! Newspapers across the council have received a press release about your Cookie Sale. You can let them know that you and your Girl Scouts are available for interviews and photos. Tell them about your Cookie Booths and goals. (see press release here)
 
World Thinking Day

As you're planning ahead for next month, don't forget that February 22 is World Thinking Day, celebrated by Girl Scouts and Girl Guides across the globe! World Thinking Day not only gives girls a chance to celebrate international friendships, but is also a reminder that Girl Scouts of the USA is part of a global community-one of nearly 150 countries with Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.Click to continue reading about World Thinking Day, and learn about awards that girls can earn at every level for participating! 


 

Going for the Gold!    

Learn about the Girl Scout Gold Award  

 

The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors can earn.  Gold Award earners typically spend a minimum of 80 hours completing a project. These Girl Scouts take actions that can reach people locally and around the world. Find the complete Gold Award information online here. 

 

There are eight steps for girls to earn their Girl Scout Gold Award.

  1. Earn the Girl Scout Silver Award and complete one Senior or Ambassador Journey OR complete two Senior or Ambassador Journeys.
  2. Choose an issue: identify a community issue you care about.
  3. Investigate: Research the issue.
  4. Get help: Invite others to take action with you.
  5. Create a project plan that achieves sustainable and measurable impact.
  6. Present your plan and get feedback.
  7. Take action: Take the lead to carry out your plan.
  8. Educate and inspire: Share what you have experienced with others.

Become a VIP: recruit a NEW adult to volunteer with your troop or service unit, and receive a pair of Girl Scout ear-buds AND an iTunes gift card.

 

Nominate a volunteer for excellent service:  Deadline February 1, 2013.

 

Add-a-Friend: Girls who recruit a buddy to join Girl Scouting before April 1, 2013, will receive a special patch!

 

Coco Keys Deposit: We're planning an exciting overnight trip for  Brownies and Juniors this July. Initial deposits are due April 1, 2013.
