Seeking Nominations
Salute someone for their volunteer service
Volunteer award nominations are officially open for volunteer service during the 2011-12 Girl Scout year! Any girl, troop, parent, or volunteer can submit a nomination. Nominations are reviewed by a council-wide committee, and award recipients are honored at an appreciation event in the spring. It's time to start thinking about how to recognize the amazing women and men who make Girl Scouting possible across Kansas!

Check out the information here! This year, we've included pictures of the awards, some sample nomination DOs & DON'Ts, and an online form, so nominating is a snap!

Volunteer Toolkit: Travel Forms
Travel Application for Short trips and Travel Application for Extended Trips
Each month in your volunteer toolkit we will focus on a different Girl Scout resource to help you better understand GSKH policies and guidelines.
Across Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland, we LOVE to see girls and volunteers planning trips, from day trips to campouts to national and international destinations. Planning a Girl Scout trip provides girls opportunities to take part in special activities, experience different cultures, and make connections to people and places! In order to streamline your planning and also to safeguard the girls, parents, and volunteers, we have several forms and resources for trip planning.
The Travel Application for Short trips is required six weeks prior to travel for a trip that includes one to a three night(s) stay on any non council-owned property. Information requested on the form includes a trip budget, transportation and vehicle plans, detailed itinerary, and adult certification information. Also, remember that when you are planning a stay in a hotel with girls, they are not authorized to go swimming at the facility unless there is a lifeguard on duty. If you are planning a short overnight trip of one to three nights but are staying on a council owned property, this form is not necessary.
If your travel plans include an overnight stay of four or more nights, both the Intent for Extended Travel Application and the Travel Plan for Extended Trips should be completed. The Intent for Extended Travel Application is due six weeks prior to regional travel, six months prior to national travel, and eighteen months prior to international travel; the Travel Plan for Extended Trips is due six weeks prior to your travel plans, after the Intent for Extended Travel Application has been approved. The Travel Plan for Extended Trips requires the following information: travel contacts, emergency contacts, and travel plans.
For questions about travel forms, please contact Faith Martin at 888-472-3683 or fmartin@gskh.org. The Travel Checklist will also help you organize your travel plans. Happy travels!

Give Girl Scouting Alumnae A Gift
Take the Traditions magazine with you this holiday season.
Is your troop caroling or visiting any senior centers this holiday season? Let us know so you can take copies of the GSKH Traditions magazines as gifts. Many Girl Scout alumnae would LOVE to see it and it is a great way to start a friendly conversation. What is that you ask? Traditions & Trailblazing, our 100th Anniversary commemorative magazine, celebrates the long, rich tradition of Girl Scouting in Kansas, beginning with the first troop West of the Mississippi formed in 1917 in Hutchinson, KS. Please enjoy this look at our incredible history and our exciting future.
Contact Traci in the Communications Department to receive copies at ttaylor@kansasgirlscouts.org or 316-684-6531 Ext. 526.
